Yorkie Yakker | Bath time It doesn't matter how I do bath time with Yoda... bathing him is like bathing a cat. He fights, he cries, he digs his nails into me. It's a nightmare. I have tried treats, I have tried making it fun, but it simply does NOT work, he hates it. He hates every second of it does anyone have suggestions?

| do you go in the bathtub with your puppy? it sounds kind of funny, but when I give Woody a bath I put on my bathing suit and go in the bathtub with him. that way he is not so scared. lots of treats, and then a nice warm blow dry, and then a very soft and pretty puppy!!! |

That's a very good idea! The first few times Chase was very scared too. I think it was because I was letting off, "Am I doing this right?//so worried" vibes. Once I calmed myself down, he settled down. Also, I give him treats in the kitchen and continue to give them to him until he is in the tub. While I carry him into the bathroom I sing, "Splishy , splashy...Chase is taking a bathy" song. You can laugh...(my husband did) but it calmed us both down. I sit him on my lap on the side of the tub and let him listen to the water run. I think he was scared of the sound of the water. I make sure the water is very warm-obviously not hot. Our faucet doesn't have a way to hook up a sprayer so I use a small tupperware container to pour water on him. He likes to stay FAR away from the faucet so this works well. All I can say is that after about 4 or 5 baths he actually liked--or just accepted it. I use tear free shampoo to scrub his widdle face and other shampoo and conditioner on his body. Another thing I do is give him hiney baths every couple days (full bath once a week) and I think the hiney bath because it is so short made him feel more comfortable in the tub. Don't know if this will help you and Yoda but it has worked for us. Good luck!!

Yorkie Yakker | i have to do something because if not I am going to have to wear cut resistant gloves and long sleeves. It's unreal. I have never had this problem before, well at least not after the first 2 or 3 times

Maybe start by carrying him the bathroom while giving treats. Then begin to put him in the tub without water a few times and feed him treats in there. Hopefully he will begin to associate the tub as a way to get treats. Try just giving his feet a quick bath--like you would if he was in mud. I think this is a situation that you need to approach very slowly. Also, I would file his nails with an emory board so that he can't scratch you. Keep me posted.

| Maybe its you? What I mean is you get scarred because you know he will react badly causing him to over react? Try a no noncense approach. Think about how you want him to behave. then just do it. Layla hates the blow dryer but I just do it and then its done. I do not react to her over reacting. Maybe try to sing a song you love. Keep yourself calm and think about the song. Good luck. And try to remember how cute he is all dry and fluffy! |

| My Harley is not fond of the running water - so I use a container and run the water as little as possible. He's not thrilled with baths but he will now put up with them. |

| I starte Pixie by washing her in the sink. The first few times I just wet her paws and behind and that was it then eventually I gave her a full bath in the sink. Now we go in the tub, she still gets nervous but I calmly talk to her and tell her what a good girl she is! My fun begins when I go near her face she acts like I am gonna rip her teeth out. Washing the tear stains is not fun with Pixie! I guess they all have their kwirks and we have to learn to figure what works. good luck~

I have no experience with the bathing wipes. I think that I would try to get him a little more adjusted to the bath before taking him to the groomer but maybe you're right about taking him there. I never thought of putting on moisturizer. I use the Buddy Splash detangling/refreshing spray but I need to spray it on the brush because he hates getting sprayed. Last year I used fish oil from the vet bc his skin was dry. We drizzled it over his food. He was not a fan but he did eat his dinner and the oil made a huge difference. I am confident that this will become easier for you. Please keep me posted!!

| Showering Since Chewie likes to follow me around, i let him follow me into the bathroom and i close the door so he can't get into any trouble while I am showering. Usually he just sits there and sniffs around outside the shower curtain but i noticed that he puts both paws up on the tub and keeps wanting to jump in. So one day i decided just to grab him and toss him in with me... lol.. He likes the warm water and starts licking my toes and walks around the tub. I grabbed some head & shoulders and put some on him and scrubbed him. Now whenever I go in for a shower, he wants in. hahaha. As soon as he 's done he's invigorated and runs like a speed demon around the house for the next few minutes. I towel-dry and then blow-dry his fur after. I guess he thinks that if I am doing something, he must be able to do it too. |
