Embarassed Why would my Yorkie pee on me??

Dunkin is 9 month's old. We've had some struggles with potty training, but I've seen definite progress in the past few weeks. We've gotten to a point where he will use both pee pads and outside, but he still has to be watched closely or accidents are likely.

This weekend, the strangest thing happened. I was getting dressed and felt something warm on my foot all of the sudden. I looked down only to see Dunkin's leg lifted and him peeing right on my foot! I was shocked! I told him "No!" and he stopped and ran away in shame with him little ears pressed down on the back of his head.

Has anyone experienced something like this before? Was he "marking" me? I know they say that dog's don't remember things like humans do, but boy was he mad at me earlier that day when I gave him a bath. Could his peeing on me been away to show his dissatisfaction with the bath? I can't imagine considering this an "accident." Any thoughts?

Wink unreal

can't wait to hear the posts on this. you must have been shocked, I know when my dog was mad at me she would pee on my bed. that's when i invested in a dog crate, it puts them in their place plus they love and need their own place. For 1 full month she slept there, was only out when I could keep an eye on her and I spent more quality time with her getting her to play. this was my s**tzu . I now have a yorkie.

Yup, he was marking you. Were you around any other dogs earlier? he may have picked up the scent on your shoes or pants.

Has he been neutered yet? If not, run, don't walk to your vet and get it done asap. Marking can be a very difficult if not impossible habit to break once it's established.

Two days after I got Alfie he was cuddled on my lap fast asleep. After a couple of hours I just had to get up and picked him up and he had done a pee pee on my lap! I hadn't felt it and I'm not sure he knew he had done it. It hasn't happened again.

My Bentley lifted his leg on me, outside, while I was chatting with a woman with a larger dog. I assumed he was saying "MINE"... I scolded him, but laughed it off. He has not done it since (he was 9-10 months, at the time)

Confused

He was neutered at around 7 months. We had to wait because he had an upper respiratory infection at around 5 months, so I wanted to make sure he was in the clear before the surgery.

He was marking as soon as we brought him home at 13 weeks (probably because he shares the house with two male cats.) Speakers, table legs, base boards ... anything he could hike his leg next too were fair game! It's gotten better enough for him to not be confined to belly bands all the time, but I just couldn't believe how nonchalantly he looked at me as he was peeing on me!

Another odd habit of his is that he LOVES peeing on and in his crate. We've used it to our advantage at this point and have it surrounded by pee pads. During the day, when he has to go he walks right up to it and pees on it. Sometimes he gets in and it pees pointing outside of it. I clean it immediately because the odd thing is he also hangs out in there. It's a lot of cleaning, but I'm so happy to confine his peeing/pooping area to a designated inside space, especially now that it's getting cold out.

I guess he's just an odd one when it comes to pee habits!!

I would REALLY discourage this one! He is learning to be a "dirty dog", there will be no end to the cleaning, for you. He won't learn not to do it!
If you want a "leg-lift" place, use a large pop bottle, filled with sand or water, wrapped in a p-pad, on a p-pad...
If his crate is plastic, it may have absorbed the scent, and may have to be removed, or replaced, to stop this one!
Good luck...

Livi has done this to me and my husband a few times. She has pottied on our feet and has also jumped into our laps while we were just relaxing on the couch and peed in our laps (talk about shocking!!) The times that she did this to our feet, she was around the same age as your puppy and she was still struggling with potty training. In fact, one of those times I even remember telling my husband that I had seen her sitting by the backdoor and then she came and pottied on his foot. With Livi, I truly feel like it was her way of telling us that she needed to go out. Now with the times that she jumped into our laps and did this, she was big and pregnant so I think it was more to do with this.

I wish I were more help...just wanted you to know that you are not the only one that this has happened to. I would just suggest keeping a REALLY close on your Yorkie's "potty cues".

Good luck!

I like the soda bottle suggestion! I find that he usually needs to pee on something, even outside he'll find a lonely leaf in the grass to target.

His crate is metal, but the bottom tray is plastic, so maybe even the power of Nature's Miracle isn't strong enough to remove the smell. The whole thing started because when he was a little puppy he would pee outside the walls of the crate while I was at work or out running errands (hence the pee pads surrounding it). We put up cardboard barriers to try and end this, but he would then just pee in the crate then kick out the tray so he would be sitting on the clean ground underneath. I guess we still have a ways to go ...

Default phew

Thank you everyone for sharing your stories. Now I know Dunkin isn't a delinquent doggy who thinks it's fun to pee on Mom. (phew!)

I was mad when it happened, but now when I tell the story I just laugh! Hopefully it won't happen again.

The dog I walk did this to a guy at the dog park today, luckily it missed him but a little drop. He didn't notice.. then later Weasley comes up to me and pees on my leg. Right on the side. Got my sock and shoe wet. Then later he tried to pee on me again, but I dodged it! I think it is some territorial thing. Scruffs did it once before he was neutered, I was quite embarrassed..

I have a 5 1/2 year old neutered male who will lift his leg on purpose and pee on me when I am paying attention to other dogs. He has being doing this ever since I joined a dog group about 1 1/2 years ago. I have to pay particular attention to him to interrupt his actions if I am paying attention to another but I don't always catch him. He had never done this before up to this point. Guess he is marking me as his own as it's always ever been just him and me.

I realize this thread is a little old but my 11yo Gracie has started peeing on me while she lies next to me in the recliner. Not every time but often enough that I'm getting frustrated at having to change clothes so often. She's house trained and never has an "accident" unless I'm away too long which is rare. But if we spend the day together in the house or we have a good time playing in the evening, we'll quiet down and sit in front of the TV... and she pees right on me. I don't notice it until I've gotten up and feel a cool, wet spot on the hem of my t-shirt or the thigh area of my sweats. What's going on with this behavior? Thanks.

Hi David,
I am wondering if possibly she is having a urinary problem. I had a dog who was well house trained but started peeing in the house often. I had not thought of it at the time but later after she died I thought about it sometimes and thought that I should have taken her in and had her checked out. Especially because one time when I was using the bathroom she peed right outside the bathroom and was looking at me at the same time. Maybe she was trying to tell me something?
