| Petsmart class Lily went to her "Puppy Class Training" on Monday and she was labeled as "TIMID" so she has a private session today!! I am happy that she is getting to have a private one because I don't think she belongs in the puppy one anyhow but they put her there because of her size. She is 18 months old. The other dogs in the class were all 3-4 months and BIG!! The class was all about "treats" and she doesn't care much about that either plus she can't have alot of that stuff as you all well know!! They used the "clicker" as a reward sound and she was afraid of it!! I am not expecting her to learn anything major just simple NO, STAY, COME, STOP would be WONDERFUL!!! If I could get her to listen to me and not bark like crazy and just come when I call her it would be well worth it!! Does anyone else have any experience with these classes or any suggestions?? We have tried everything that we can think of with her and she just will not listen at all. She is excellent as far as "potty trained" and she doesn't chew or tear up anything, she is cute as she can be so that helps her alot!!lol She is spoiled rotten and I guess that is my fault but she DEMANDS until she gets her way!! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | All the classes & trainers in the world are not going to help until you decide to really get serious about the training. Classes are about training the human to train the dog. If you are not willing to be trained, why bother. You need to get beyond her cuteness & start laying down some rules, boundries & limitations. She demands her own way because you taught her that she can. You know the old saying. 'You reap what you sow'. I think you need help with this, but first you need to take a good hard look at the part you have played in this to start turning it around. It's probably not going to be easy. You could get a clicker & use it around home. It may scare her less & would give her a chance to get accustomed to the sound. It's a good training method if you are willing to do the work. Some people use the clicker method but use words instead of the clicker. Get some books, dvds, search the internet for help in clicker training. Make the commitment to put in the time & effort it takes to do the training. The older Lily gets, the harder it will be to turn her around on behavior. What have you done to socialize her around other people, dogs, locations, etc? Maybe that's why she was labeled 'timid'. I've not ever worked with a timid dog, so I don't know where to begin on that. Do you think she is timid? I wish you luck & success!

| We took Sushi to Petsmart puppy class. He loved it & did great. The class had 4 other dogs in it. We didn't continue user the clicker when we were done but he obeys the commands great. Sit, stay, come, leave it etc. |

| Lily did great at her "private training session"!! The trainer said she did so much better than she did with the bigger dogs around. She goes to the regular class on Monday and I am working with her at home alot so hopefully she will do good there too. Like I said ... I am not interested in her doing anything great just learning to listen to simple "No" etc etc!! |

| Sasha and myself have been going for 3 weeks , 3 classes and she is pretty good in class . She will stay , sit , roll over, go get it , came here and leave it. Well when she gets home 1/2 of it go out the door with her LOl !!! She never come back in when I call her from the back yard, she never leave it !! She runs away with what ever she finds in the yard she wants and like. Only once she is in the house and she see treats, she will sit , roll over and stay. So we have a few weeks to go , And I hope she will get better, but I'm not banking on it LOL !!!!. bark@ulater!!!!! manina, mileymax, sasha:aimeeyor k Last edited by manina; 10-17-2009 at 08:32 PM. |

| How old is Sasha? Ya Lily does the "leave it" and "watch me" but only for ground beef as her "special treat" then she barks at the TV and runs away from me still too!! I do think she is a little bit better and she has only been to 1-1/2 classes and she has 7 more to go!! Course it is probably wishful thinking on my part too!! Keep me posted on how Sasha does too. I feel like people here think I am a horrible mother to her but I have worked very hard with her to get her to do as good as she does. I was very happy that she is potty trained so well because people (her groomer for one) tell me that "yorkies sometimes never do even housebreak because they are so stubborn"?? She is real good in most ways....she doesn't chew or tear up anything ever and she is real good about using the pee pads. She just doesn't listen to anything that she doesn't want to do and she BARKS!!! I guess I have failed her by spoiling her but I just want a pet not a show dog. I didn't think of it as a JOB when I got a dog, I got her to enjoy!! Good luck to you too with Sasha!! Let me know how she does!! |

| We took Shadow to the beginners class. We have been working with him before the petsmart class. He knows sit and lay down. But once we got to the class he seemed to be mored interested in the other dogs. Hopefully that will change when he gets use to them. On a good note I need notice that he doesn't jump to new people as much as he did before the class. We're trying to make him social, and not jump on new people. |

| Lily had her 2nd Class tonight and she did great!! She wasn't "timid" anymore with the other dogs!! She walked on the leash and sit just like she was supposed to and she did real good with it all. The trainer did tell us one new thing for barking to try a regular whistle and we got one at Walmart on the way home and we blow it one time when she barks and she did stop!! He said "any loud noise to get their attention" clap your hands if nothing else. He also said "not to reward them when they stop barking because then they think they are being rewarded for barking"!! She never would pay any attention to the coins in a can, water bottle etc etc. Hope this helps!! |

You see when she was posted on here she was 6 lbs, But when I pick her up she was 9.7 or 9.5 lbs. So we will see what she will learn one day at a time, I'm trying to get her to stop jumping on every one , even the other 2 dogs, cause she is much bigger than them. Good Luck !!! bark@ulater!!!!! manina, mileymaxsasha | |
