lays on pee pad Tommy will lay down and sleep on his pee pad that he has already peed on. He also was peeing in his bed untill we gave him less room. He will still pee on the floor but also on his pad or the edge of it. I have been told that when they will lay in their mess they will be hard to train. He is just over 11 weeks old. I do take him off the pee pad and put him on his doggie bed he uses in his dog pen during the day.

I would keep him in the confined bed until it's time for him to eat, play, and go potty. Place him on the pad. If he tries to lay down, stand him up. If he doesn't go potty in ten minutes, put him back in his confined area and try again in five minutes. Keep doing this until he gets the picture.

We had the same issue with Juno. We tried everything, but he loved to lay on his used pad! Eventually, we trained him to go outside, and eliminated the pee pad altogether! Good Luck!

Bra'Tac does the same thing, he is 7 months. Just give him time. They are still so little. Just keep using the commands for potty that you use, when he is on it. Eventually he will become acquainted to the command, and know what it means. Just be kind and consistent, you do not want him to feel that he is being punished for laying on the pad, otherwise he will totally avoid it. Best of luck.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | That's very normal for an 11 week old, and you were correct in making the bed area smaller. Remember housebreaking takes months, not days. Sometimes an older dog can be completely trained in a very short time, but you have to wait for a puppies system to mature, and for the bladder to gradually grow in expand. A rule of thumb is they can hold it for one hour at 12 weeks, with each additional month they can hold one more hour. You can double this for nighttime.

Thanks to everyone for your response. He still lays on the pee pad but dont make a big deal as suggested here. Just glad to see that it is a normal thing. I was thinking he had some dirty habits.
