| Help..please - 9 days of no accidents and now 5! Hi, We are new to Yorkie Talk and have gone through hundreds of messages regarding Potty Training. Our little guy, Sparkle, is almost six months old and we have had him almost a month. We have been following all kinds of guidance (crate training, keeping on a leash, taking out every 1-2 hours, positive rewards, no punishing, etc.) and were having GREAT progress. Nine days with no accidents. He sleeps through the night from 9p to 6:30a and has not had any accidents in his crate for about 2.5 weeks. Then today, we have had five accidents in the house despite taking him out frequently. He did start doxycycline last night for a cough but otherwise things were pretty normal except he did not have as much of my attention. Any ideas if this could be due to the medicine (anyone have experience? I looked on the internet and did not see frequent need to urinate as a side effect) or could it be behavioral? He only spends about 3 total hours in his crate each day and gets loads of attention. Thanks for any guidance! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It might be something about the reason for the cough that's throwing him off, or could be something about the way the med is affecting him. I'd say to tough it out for awhile & see if he gets back to normal as you run the course of the medicine. Keep doing what you've been doing. Hopefully he'll be back to normal soon. What a shame though to have this happen now after setting a good record. Lots of luck!

| Still accidents :( Thanks Roxy for your reply. For some reason, we got on a bad trend. Sparkle has now had accidents in his crate, the floor, his playpen, etc. We are back to no freedom practically and a stress free MOmmy |

| He is on antib's and they DO make you have to pee more often. And he is only 6 months old, he's still a baby and they DO regress. But the good thing is that if you start again, back to the basics he'll be on track soon! I use Peanut Butter Chips from the baking isle for Good Potty Reward they are small but very effective. |
