| What is wrong with them!! Giorgio is 8 months, and Chanel is almost 7 months. About a month or more ago, they would always use the Pads, but now.....no. They do not care. They walk away and go on the floor no where near them. Are they retarded? I do not understand how they can be totally trained, and then not be. I am so frustrated with them. I have even started taking them on long walks, etc., and they will still go on the floor. Giorgio is also marking stuff. I just do not know what else to do. They are really good otherwise. What do you guys think? |

| I totally know your frustration!!!...Apple is almost 9 months old, and I went through the same thing w/her...Are they going on the floor or carpet? At about 7 months, Apple completely blew off the puddle pads, and took to the carpet...Nothing I could say or do would work...About a month ago, I changed out the carpet for laminate, and she's doing so much better...If she does have an accident, it's usually because I couldn't get home from work to giver her a break....She can go about 4 or 5 hrs., but no more...She weighs 4 1/2 lbs...I think the carpet just "tempted" her w/the smell all the time...Now I have the laminate floor, if she does have an accident, I use nature's miracle and clean it up, and she never goes in the same place twice...If you're already on laminate, well, I don't know what to tell you, except I've heard these little cuties were hard to housebreak..... |

My furkids Donating Member | They walk away and go on the floor no where near them. Are they retarded?....I'm sorry!! this just sounded funny...NO! they aren't retarded!! Mine will do the same thing...Sadie is 4yrs old and Lillie is 3yrs old...For the most part they are really good about going on the pads (I have 1 in two different rooms..they won't pee and poop on the same pad)...Lillie is usually pretty good about going on the pad all the time...Sadie on the other hand is good for most of the time then all of a sudden...they forget about the pad...I don't know why they do this either.

| The second half of the first year puppies go through a "teenage" stage, like puppy puberty. You can expect rebellion, selective listening, regression in housebreaking, etc. Having two puppies the same age is double the trouble as they pick up bad habits from one another just like human children. You will have to work really, really hard on obedience and training them individually during this period. Separate groups for basic puppy kindergarten is a good idea. Have they both been spayed and neutered? Raging hormones will only make your job harder. |

| I need help too Marley was trained to go on the pee pads too ... then we got Colt.. and she wont use them now.. Colt is great and uses them 99.9% of the time and hes only 13 weeks old!! I give them both treats when he goes so she wont feel left out and maybe when she sees what he is getting a treat for she will start doing the same thing. She is a year old. I have to take her outside to potty and it sucks because its nothing but snow and blizzards here in Northen japan once november hits.

| They have their accidents on the carpet. I clean it with the Nature's Miracle stuff, and they just pick a new spot to go in. Giorgie has even started lifting his leg at doorways, etc.....which infuriates me. They live in the bathroom when I am not home, and use the pads 100% while in there. When they come out....it's like race to find a spot to go. I even take them for long walks sometimes to try to reduce this......but I do not understand. They are not fixed because I had intended on breeding them. I would do the belly band on him, but since he is trained(HA) to go inside on the pads, I do not think that would be effective. I am on the verge of removing the pads, and buying crates. I am renting, but my lease is over in 1 month, so I am considering getting a place with no carpet in hopes that it will help. I love them so much, and I just wish they would act right. I am scared that they will never be trained.......... |

As I said, this stage they are in now is puppy puberty. That's why the marking and behavior problems have started. If you want great pets, get them both fixed and work really hard on training now, before they become adults. It will be much harder to correct bad behavior then.

Four months or three pounds is the general guideline. Many show breeders neuter their males before they ever go to their new home. If the hormones never start, usually marking doesn't either. Many vets like to wait until six months to neuter to see if any baby teeth have been retained and need to be pulled out. Obviously, it is cheaper and safer for them to be put under anesthesia only once. Of course, you are taking a chance if you wait that they may start marking.

| I believe he has already started marking. He is about 4 lbs give or take and a little over 3 mos., i tried weighing me and then weighing me with him. What is the recovery process for the neutering? Should i make sure i can be home with for a couple days straight? THANKS! |

Neutering a pretty fast recovery. Since there is anesthesia and stitches involved, though, it would be great if you could either take a few days off or have it done on A Friday if you don't work weekends.

| mine didn't start marking until probably about 6 months. Then it's just trickles ON stuff. I remember about 3 months Baxter started doing the same thing, so I just reverted back to keeping him in the crate for a couple hours and only letting him out to poop and pee, and if he did he got to play before going back in. He caught back on pretty fast. We did just move though and the first two days were crazy with him peeing everywhere, but then he got back into the swing of things. i think it was the excitement of a new place. So just to forewarn you when you move! |
