| From outdoor training to pee pee pads Hello all. I am so glad I found this website. It has been so beneficial. We got our very first Yorkie one week ago today. She is 9 weeks old today. We started crate training which is going GREAT. She has only had one accident in her crate. She has only had about 6 or 8 accidents in the house since we brought her home. She has really caught on to the going outside thing. We have decided to also pee pee pad train because I am a teacher. I spoke with a trainer and she suggested this because I will be gone approximately 10 hours/day when school starts back and she thinks this will be too long for her to be in her crate without going potty. We bought a doggy litter box and put a pee pee pad in it. (per advice from trainer) but Ella will have NOTHING to do with it. She will sniff around so I put her in there and she jumps right out. As soon as I take her out, she potties outside. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! New Yorkie Mommy |

| welcome to YT! okay, milu is my first dog. so when i first started potty training her, i didn't really know what i was doing, i was really confused, and i also really confused milu. she knows how to go potty outside as well, but she didn't know how to tell me she has to go potty. so she would have accidents in the house. i decided to pee pad train her. the key to pee pad training is consistency. and when you first start pee pad training, you have to make sure you STOP taking her outside to go potty. when i started pee pad training milu. she also knew how to go potty outside. but i stopped taking her out, and keep watching her very closely, and as soon as she has to go to the bathroom, i put her on the pee pad. and then i will praise her for going on the pee pad. of course sometimes she will start going on my carpet, and i will stop her immediately, pick her up, put her on the pee pad and say "potty" once she goes to the bathroom on the pee pad, you can take her out for a walk if you wanted to take her out. the key is to get her to have to go when she is in the house, and show her to use the pee pad. so while i was pee pad training milu, we didn't go outside until i she already gone on the pee pad in doors. once the dog is 100% pee pad trained, then you can take her outdoor again whenever you want and let her potty outside as well. always say "potty" or whatever word you want to use when she is going on the pad, and tell her "good potty, good girl" and lots of praises and treats when she goes on the pee pad. milu loves going potty on the pee pad now, and she also developed a way to tell me when she needs to go potty. she will scuff her feet when she needs to go to the bathroom good luck to you and your baby!
