| HELP! Walking Coby is far from pleasant! Hi Everyone! My baby Coby loves to go walking and I love to take him walking; however, the walk isn't pleasant because he constantly is sniffing and in turn he ends up pooing and peeing the entire time. I have tried to do what Caesar Millian says and tug once and then relax for correction but he ignores it. Then I tried to purchase a harness that was supposed to make them more upright but that didn't work. I have tried taking treats and praising him for the 2 seconds that he holds his head up but he snatches the treat and proceeds to poo and pee as he pleases. I make sure he goes to potty before walking but in that little body he finds more to give out on his walk. I have no idea what in the world I can do. I would love to be able to just walk around a track or in the neighborhood without becoming frustrated. I know he can't help it but it has to be something that can correct this situation. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I will try anything! Thanks |

| I don't think I'm getting it Is it that he is sniffing around and this STOPS him from peeing and pooping? Or that it isn't pleasant because he's just sniffing around - period? Because if it's the latter you're not going to get much improvement no matter what you do A dog's purpose for going outside is a lot different than your purpose both you and your dog end up getting the same thing .... and that is having him relieve himself outside But he's doing it to leave a scent marker for other dogs and that's what he is sniffing out .... he's reading the street for all the other dogs that were there recently

| Thanks for your response Joey. I don't think you are understanding my problem. I understand his purpose to relieve outside because I trained him to use the restroom outside; however, he shouldn't continue to use the bathroom during an entire walk. I was explaining that he sniffs during the entire walk after relieving himself and by him sniffing he ends up using the restroom while we are walking and he should have some sense of control while taking a leisure walk. Did you have any suggestions as to how we could get through a walk without him using the restroom the entire time? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | My dog is not obsessive about it, but she does like to mark and pretend to pee. I know what you mean about actually walking on your walk. When Morgan stops to sniff or "pee" i just give her a little tug and at the same time use Caesars "shhtt" noise. When she was a baby and was a little more obsessive about doing it i just shortened the leash so she had to walk next to me on the sidewalk and not on the grass, or i walked in the street so there was no grass. There was a lot of 'shhhtt-ing" for a few walks but eventually she got it.
