| Doggy bootcamp? Have anyone ever tried a doggy bootcamp? My dogs aren't bad there are some things that I just can't seem to break and I keep seeing adds for them on craig's list. Normally I would never consider sending them away for 6 weeks but my daughter has a friend that sent his Cihuahua and he is beyond the best behaved dog I have ever seen. When he talks to him he listens just like he is human. He has never had an accident in the house and when he wants to go out he goes and gets the leash and takes it to his owner! He is a very confident dog as well so I don't see that it did him any harm at all. Of course I would never send any of them without going to check the place out and talk to some referrences. But was just thinking about it and considering it. Would love to hear if anyone else has had experience with it. Kim

| I sent my Chewy away to boot camp for 4 weeks, we had some major training issues with him and it seemed to be the answer to our prayers. I checked the place out twice, had numerous meetings with the trainer. The 4 weeks turned into 6 under the pretence that Chewy was stubborn and not responding to training as fast as he should. Although he came back a bit better trained, the problems are still there and I'm not impressed. Plus they used a chocker collar on him and he had plenty of nicks and scabs on his neck and he was very nervous and scared. Always cringing when you went to pet him, he eventually outgrew this behavour. but I'm NOT IMPRESSED. So - would I do it again? - NEVER' NEVER' again.

| hmmm, not what I wanted to hear. MOre hoping to hear what my daughter's friend experienced. LOL Hopefully there will be more people that have done it. Did they not tell you they would be using a choke collar? There is my first question for the trainer there! Were you able to visit him during that time?

| sending a dog away to be trained does not teach the owner to deal with it them selves. if you go to a camp a dog and owner should go together to learn together and also so the dog is safe guarded. what you do not know they do to a dog can do great damage to the dog long term. jl

with this. I think sending your dogs away does not solve problems... and it doesn't really teach YOU how to deal with them once they're back living with you again. The owner should be able to connect with the owner and want to listen to you. I prefer learning WITH my dog and creating that bond.

| I think after some thought you are all right. I am not sure I would have ever been able to do it anyway but after meeting the Chi that has gone I was impressed. I don't have any real pressing issues with mine as it is just wouldn't mind if they were "perfect" LOL

First... YorkieMother! Second...this pretty much sums up my reaction to the use of a choke chain on a Yorkie...are they nuts? BIG red flag...run! Third...when my children were younger, we had Airedales (King of Terriers) and I did send them to a Dog Trainer who came highly recommended by my Vet and had fantastic credentials to back up her education & training expertise. However...what she accomplished with both of my Airedales was like p!ssing in the wind "after" our two lil darlin's came home. You see, the ones who needed "equal" training...were US! The two week "Inhouse Dog Training" did include a two hour (human) training session for myself & my children on Maggie & Mollie's going home day. But, that just could not compare and a LOT of what was learned that evening...was soon was forgotten! In the end...our two big girls did retain their basic commands (Thank God!) but at such an expense that hind sight tells me now that I was perfectly competent in learning & teaching those simple commands for about $1,000 less! Another one of life's lessons learned...
