| Eating schedule I have a yorkie who is 10 months old and I am having a difficult time with his eating in the morning. I give him about an hour to eat and go outside but when I come home from work, about 8 hours, I find that he has pooped in his kennel, regardless of how small the kennel is. I can feed him at night and he is good until the morning usually about 10 hours. Why does he not hold it in the morning? Is there any suggestions on how to fix the problem..something I need to do differently. I know I can't feed him just once a day but I don't know what to do. |

| To me, it sounds like he doesn't have a choice and has to go. Since he usually holds it when he knows he can't go, it would seem that he can't help it. If I understand correctly, he goes potty in the morning, you feed him and put him in his crate. And then he has gone potty in the crate by the time you get home? I think 8 hours is a bit much to hold it during the day. There is a difference between holding it while he is asleep and holding it during his 'active' hours. We, as humans, go a lot more during the day than we do at night I also think that your pup will determine his own feeding schedule to a point. After 10 months, Cash decided that he wants a tiny bit of breakfast, but most of his daily food for dinner. I just adapted his feeding schedule and we haven't had problems since. You can safely feed him once a day with some healthy treats in the morning to get him going. At 10 months, the risk of hypoglaecemia is almost non-existent, so no worries there. Just check that he isn't losing weight and is still full of energy. I think the best solution to your problem would be to get someone to come over and take him out during the day. If you work nearby, take him for a walk during your lunch hour or get someone else to do it. He doesn't want to soil his crate, so simply give him an opportunity during the day to do his business outside.

| 8 hours is too long to hold it in! (yorkies are small you and have very small bladders) i think you need to use a pen and provide a pee pad so he can use it when he needs to. as for not going potty in the AM. he probably just doesn't have to go yet. milu usually doesn't have to go in the morning either. if i want her to go potty than i would need to wake up earlier and walk her, and then feed her. after she's been moving around, she should be able to go to the bathroom.

| When we get up in the morning, everyone goes out. They all get their food, we mess around a little, and then everyone goes out again. At this time most will do their little poo. Our daughter's Pommie is on a different schedule but she is a mite larger than my Yorkies.

| Just make sure he poops before you leave. I know with Jackson, every morning when we wake up, he goes immediately outside and goes poop and pee and then he can hold it for about 4-5 hours. And he's 14lbs so his bladder is a bit bigger! I can't imagine leaving him for 8 hours every day expecting him to hold it, even though he is 8 months old now. Like yorkiepuppie said, if he won't go... make sure you feed him and give him water, walk him around a bit, he will have to go! Just don't leave him in his crate until he gets his poopy out
