| stairs! the first day i got my puppy, he almost immediately knew how to go up the stairs. however...he refuses to go down the stairs!! i have tried putting treats on the step and encouraging him to come down, just one step at a time. but he seems too afraid. did/does anyone else experience this same problem? or know how to fix it? thanks so much |

| Have you tried getting him to just go down one step like on the porch or something. That builds up their courage. Then after that try to encourage going down the stairs again with treats

| I had this same problem with my maltese when we got her. We just taught her like you would a human child...one step at a time. I would gently hold her, and place her front paws down on the step, then her hind legs...one step at a time...one set of paws at a time. Don't worry, the older and bigger he gets, the more confident he will become. |

| Yeah im hoping as he gets older he will be less fearful. he is a pretty big boy though, he weighs 9 pounds already and hes only 5 mos! he does go down one or two steps (such as on a front porch) but he seems to be overwhelmed when at the top of the staircase! i try to work him through it one step at a time, ill keep trying...we'll see how he progresses! |

| maybe he is afraid of heights? probably not though. do you have stairs at home? i have lots of stairs at home, and milu just learned to use them on her own. she is a pro now and can go up and down faster than anyone/any dogs! she is only 3 lbs, so each step is practically her height too! maybe just give him some time. he will want to follow you where you are in the house, so he will learn to go up and down the stairs? good luck!
