| Maye is sneaky! Potty training help! Hello everyone. I have a little girl that will be turning five months on the fourteenth of June named Maye. At night she sleeps in her crate and in the morning I let her out. I know she should have to pee or poop then because she doesn't go in her cage, but she doesn't right away. In fact, she's quite random when she goes. I try watching her closely, but the moment I have to do something for a second, she escapes my sight and pees. Sometimes I catch her and I say "No! Bad girl! No!" and I grab her and put her on the pad. i've even stopped her from peeing [grabbing her while she's in the middle of it] and place her on the pad hoping she'll finish peeing on it, but she just doesn't go then. I've even tried dipping the pad in her a little of her pee. Nothing. I don't know what to do but I know there is no way she will be able to keep going in the house. What do I do? I know I should feed her treats but how if she never goes on the pad to begin with? Thanks for your time! |

| Have you tried confining her to a small place (gated kitchen or ex-pen) lined with several wee wee pads? This worked well for us with Milo. It was easy to give him a treat for going on the pad as there was nowhere else to go. We had wee pads all over the kitchen and eventually removed all but one. Milo consistently uses the one remaining pad (under kitchen table). Although we spent almost all our time with him on the kitchen floor his first month home, it was well worth it! Good luck and be patient, it does get better as long as you are consistent. |

| these are the instructions I give to my pups new families,we have ad a lot of success with it. Potty training.....outdoors or indoors When you are not home keep her in her crate or x-pen,when you go to let her out put her in the xpen fully lined with pads (try to give her a good 10 minutes) and say her "potty" word...when she goes reward her right away say "good potty"give a treat and take her out of her pen to play for 5 minutes or longer if fully supervised, if you can so she does not associate (if i potty i get put back in my crate.....we want her to think oh when i potty i get a treat and get to play.) This will only be temporary until she knows to only potty on her pad..when she is fully trained you can leave her in her x pen with crate door open. Once she is trained you will only need potty pads in 1 accesible room.. My yorkies all sleep in their crates all night long and have no problem.......once they are trained they will cry or bark to let you know let me out i need to potty! if you fully line the xpen with the reusable or disposable she will be forced to use it.The pet stores also have "pee" spray you can put on the pad to encourage her to pee there. I buy female diapers and male belly bands on ebay they have much cuter styles and you can get a much better deal. You should only need 3 or so tops.Place a sanitary napkin or panty liner in it incase she does pee in it....so you are not constantly washing diapers. STEP BY STEP 1.)WAKE UP AND TAKE PUPPY OUT OF HER CRATE,TAKE DIAPER OFF 2.)PUT HER IN HER XPEN COMPLETELY LINED WITH POTTY PADS, SAY "POTTY" GIVE HER A FEW MINUTES ,ONLY REPEAT "POTTY" 5 OR SO TIMES IF SHE GOES REWARD WITH TREAT,SAY "GOOD POTTY" TAKE HER OUT OF THE PEN,PUT A DIAPER ON HER , if she does not go put her diaper back on put her back in her crate...... if you can go back and repeat every 20 minutes until she goes. 3.)Feed her .let her play 4.)Before you leave for work ,put her back in x pen take diaper off repeat step 2. 5.)Put her in her crate with her diaper on ...leave for work. She will get the hang of it,just be consistent and eventually you will be able to HAVE A FULLY TRAINED YORKIE! For outdoor training substitute steps with xpen for outside.
