Why does she poop/pee in her CRATE?! Every night. EVERY. NIGHT. I thought they weren't suppose to do this? She sleeps next to her poo. I tried a diaper and she just pooped in it and it was stuck to her butt the next morning. She is getting better about pottying inside, I keep a close eye on her and know when she is sniffing or going in circles it means potty time and I take her out, but when I'm asleep she does her business in her bed . The vet suggested I make it to where she can't move at all in her crate during bedtime, that seems so mean to me. What do you think?

The crate is to big? It should be small enough to be a cozy bed, sit up, stand up turn around, lay down. I have the smallest crate for Lexi. It is her bed, and she feels safe. She sleeps 8 hours at night in it. We have it eye level to our bed so she can see us at all times. She has not messed in it. She is 7 mos and I have now moved her to an xpen for 4-5 hours while we are at work and she has not had accidents. Good luck, be patient she will get it!

Thor's Human Donating Member | If she can potty in one corner and sleep in another, it is too big. A lot of people put a piece of cardboard in the crate to make it smaller while they are growing. How old is your pup? When they are young, you shouldn't expect them to hold it longer than their age in months, + 1. So a three month pup can generally hold it four hours. Maybe you need to take her out during the night?

Our little boy is 4 months and recently he started going to the bathroom in his crate at night! He has a blanket in his crate and he will just cover it up with his blanket! He has the smallest crate you can buy. He only weighs 3.9 lbs. He also just started wanting to poo inside rather than out. He will pee outside when I take him out but, when we get inside he will run and poo? Does anyone know what the deal is with that? I think it is because the grass is dewy in the morning. Any thoughts?

General rule of thumb is puppies can hold their bladders for the number of months they are in age plus 1. This means a 4 month old puppy should be able to hold its bladder 5 hours. Remember, this is a generality and is probably less for for Yorkies because of their size. Try attaching an xpen to the crate so they can go out into it to potty when they need to and back in the crate to sleep. I am sure this will make the both of you happy as I am sure she is upset about having to sleep in a soiled bed. edit: oops! didnt realize QuickSilver said the same thing Last edited by Bravo916; 05-07-2009 at 12:20 PM.
