| Training to use the pet door My little mochi is potty-trained to go outside when she goes. However, we just got a new screen door pet door so that I don't have to leave the door open. However, she hates it. I've tried putting the treat on the other side of the pet door to get her to go to the other side, but she is deathly scared of it. I don't want to force her to go through because I don't want it to be a negative experience associated with the screen door. Thoughts? |

| i would tape the flap open to the outside and let her use it that way for awhile until she gets used to going in and out, then you could put the flap down...i had a rottweiler with a doggie door and to train him, i would in and out of the doggie door myself.. i doubt you can do that cause i bet its 50x smaller.. but do try it with the flap up first..just a suggestion |

| We got a doggie door about a month ago and Harley flies through it like it's nothing now, but he was scared of it in the beginning. At first we would get on the other side of the door, hold the flap open and bribe him with a treat. Then after a few days, we let the flap fall down as he was going through so he'd get used to the feel. It probably took less than a week and he had it all figured out. At first he would hit it open with his paw then run through, now he just goes straight through head first. My 2 1/2 year old schnauzer absolutely refuses to even try. We've had no luck with anything we've tried with her, but Harley is too cute going through. It is ADORABLE watching him act like such a big boy!

| Sorry, I had to tell you one more story about Harley and our doggie door. The other day we were all outside, I came in to the get the phone and left the dogs on the patio. Harley decided to come in through the doggie door and Sydney (the schnauzer) did the usual. She sat at the door whining and waiting for someone to let her in. Harley went back to the doggie door and kept hitting it with his paw and barking. I swear I think he was trying to help Sydney and encourage her to come in. Wish I would have had my video camera ... it was too cute!
