| 10week old and confused Hello, This is my first toime on ehre and my first Yorkie. I bought a Male yorkie over the weekend and he was never house broken, they allowed thier dogs to run the house free without any proper potty training. Two days in potty training: Doggie litter box training. When I take him out of his bed crate in the morning I immediatly take him to his small doggie litter box lined with a puppy pad. He keeps jumping out. and I keep putting him back in. We do this for about 10 minutes and then I put him back into his small crate, and do it again, and again, but with no results. Here is where I'm confused: I was told to keep doing this and if he will not uninate to put him back into a small crate (not his bed crate) and do not alllow him run around the house until he uninates. However, if I do this we will never bond because he would be spending all his time in his small crate. What do I do???? Other things that I'm doing: I have a medium crate that I use for bedding at night. I put treats in thier and make it a good thing. He seems okay with it at ight, cries 15 minutes the first night and only 5 minutes the second night. I use a small crate for discipline when he's not pottying. How do I potty train him, but still spend time with him? Thank you for any, any, any advice. Angie |

I was told to take him directly to his pad when I take him out of his small crate and if he won't go to put him back in thier and to keep doing this. if I do this, he might spend months in this crate and no time to run and play. I'm confused. | |

YT Addict | yes it is frustrating at times my 5month old wont use the pee pad but my 7 month old does , how i trained my 7 month old yorkie and my daughters chihuahua we put them in a baby play pen , put a pee pad in there that way they didnt have run of the house all the time , kept the play pen in the living room where we were at , we also had them in there at nite time , and when we went away .

| I remember thinking the same thing, only out of the crate to pee, well I thought that was so stupid.... I failed at crate training. I did however give her a small area to play in with a pee pad, her breeder had newspaper over the pee pads , as soon as I put the newspaper down she new how to use it and we went from there, she has an occasional accident , right near the pee pad but she is doing good.. Im a failure at crate training.. I didnt get a puppy to keep it in a crate! |

| Thanks for the advice. Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to portion off a section of my kitchen and put him in thier when we know he has to potty but wont. Then after he potties we will allow him to run free with keeping the pads on the living room floor. Then when he uses these we will give him a special treat. Is this a good idea to start with? Thanks again. |

| Welcome and congrats on your baby. First of all, sorry, I'm not a big fan of crate training at all. I always used the xpen or a big cage that can also have a pee pad, food water, bed, etc in. A 2 1/2 mo old yorkie should never be left in a crate for more than 3 hours at a time(rule of thumb, 1 hour for each mo. the puppy is in age). I also never used the litter box. Mine have all been pee pad trained, and this way when they are in their cage and they have their pee pad down, they have always gone over to use it. The breeder I got my last biewer from had pee pads down in the puppy room, when i got my little girl at 5 1/2 mos, she was already about 85% house broken, and was totally housebroken within about 2 weeks later. I always let mine out in the morning and would let them run on my carpet in the family room(it's already ruined from pee anyway). when I would catch them smelling, I would take them right over to the pee pad and make them stay on it, then lots of praise when they would go and an occasional treat. If you catch them peeing or pooping on the floor, immediately I would say NO and would pick them up and take them over to the pee pad. This has been the only way I have trained for 11 years. I used to train outside until I had a dog get run over. 10 weeks old he's still just a little baby. Don't get too upset, he will pick it up |
