Thor's Human Donating Member | Belly band question I've been thinking about getting Thor some belly bands for when I take him to friends' houses. I'd love to be 100% confident that he'd never pee in someone's living space, but sadly, experience has taught me otherwise. My question is: do dogs ever try to poop while wearing a belly band? If so, what happens? It hasn't happened on my watch, but one of my first memories of Thor is him leaving an M 'n M sized turd in my office (when he belonged to my coworker).

| A belly band is a "Belt" of sorts that covers a male dogs penis. It serves different purposes for different dogs but is mainly used to housebreak puppies (they learn that they don't like the feel of something wet against the skin), prevents marking in the house for intact males...some breeders use them for all their males when a bitch is in season to prevent accidental breeding and lastly... for older males who are becoming incontinent. If they had to poop, the belly band wouldn't have any effect.

| The belly band only covers the 'daddy parts'...not the factory at the back! They do work...I use them on Murfee when one of the girls is in heat...that's the only time he wants to mark. I use an Always pad inside, they have a gel in the middle that traps the urine and keeps everything dry. A word of caution for those who use them to prevent breeding though: CHECK THOSE BANDS OFTEN! Maddie just went through the world's longest heat (we were all miserable and sleepless!) so I kept panties on her and a belly band on Murfee. I noticed a spot of pee in the living room that looked like it was done leg lift style so I checked Murf. From his attempts at mating with Maddie he had scooted the band down and was able to pee outside of the band and it occurred to me that they could have tied under the right conditions. They never connected during her heat but it sure got my mind racing! |
