Plus he has a doggy door where he can just go and bark at his discretion (haha...he is a dog and that is what they do! ) I tried the spray int he face everytime he barks, the coin in the can...none of those worked he is just really so full of BARKINESS...... hope someone can help us! |

| Oh that's bad .... you need to act fast I'd get him to a trainer quick but what you could do in the meantime is whenever he's getting into a situation where you know he's going to bark ... distract him get him to focus on something that you know will grab his attention treats are the usual thing and a good way to use a treat is hold it inside your hand and let him try to get it while the action is going by that makes him bark when the threat is over give him the treat ... and a Good Boy!

| great suggestion that is a great suggestion. I should try that. What do you guys think about those things that you can put on your porch that has that ultrasonic sound that only dogs can hear to deter them from barking. Is that a good idea? Has anyone tried that? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Im probably gonna get crap for this.. but have you tried the collars that stop the barking? However i would only use that as a last resort. If your home a lot, I would go around with your pup when they go potty, that way you can tell them No! when they do it.. I dont know, thats what I did, however I work at home and I know not everyone has that luxury. Good luck with it though! I would do something quick if the association is sending you letters about it. I also know what is like on the OTHER side of this story because working at home and all, my neighbors large dog would not SHUT up and I didnt want to, but I had to complain to the association because the owners would not listen. good luck!

Senior Yorkie Talker | What a pack of crap! People are so damn nosey. How big and loud could a 4 month old Yorkie be? Now, I'm pissed and it's not even my dog... Barking is one of the ill behaviors that is not that easy to cure. I suggest training, but in the interim, put a soft muzzle on him when he is outside, placing it on him when he begins the barking. There are also leash and collar combos that restrict the dog from opening its mouth...used in the case of dogs that bite. I am not sure if they offer this for the little guys. I curbed my female of outdoor barking with a soft muzzle and I, too, live in a condo. Now, she and her new brother go off like a couple of furry alarm systems only when my idiotic neighbors decide to walk their oversized, huge poo dropping, dogs behind my patio. I have seemingly cured this problem, as well. I now stand guard like a condo commando and ask each person if they have their poo baggie and whether they are planning on collecting the small mountain as indicated in the by-laws...hehehehe. This has deterred the traffic substantially... Oh, the joys of living in a complex. Good luck to you and your furbaby. Blessings....Lisa, Lilly & Jesse |

| I had the citronella spray collar for Edie....It was effective until it stopped working for some reason. Expensive, though. |

I would try first exercising the heck out of him so he has less energy to put into barking. Second, pennies in a can worked wonders on Thor. I used it maybe a dozen times, and he pretty much never barked indoors again. He'll do a little growl, which I think is fine, but no piercing, over the top sounds. I used to always "shush" him, and it seemed like he suddenly figured out that oh, when she shushes, she means QUIET, not BARK MORE. I think a small muzzle is a great idea. You can also use this as a training device. The first time he barks outside, you put it on. He'll probably realize pretty quick that if he stays quiet, no muzzle.

| Gentle Leader Makes a citronella collar. Pet Smart has them. Our neighbor at the lake used them with her Min Schnauzer and it was safe and effective! Sorry but I would be one of those neighbors complaining if the barking is excessive. I mean no disrespect and I would never ask you to get rid of your dog! However, We all have the right to the peaceful enjoyment of our own home. I think its great you are seeking advise for a solution. |

| I'm facing a similar situation where I know I need to take Duke out daily but it's a hit or miss with him, somedays he's great others he barks and lunges at every pet/people we see. I gave up with the water spray and coins in a can. We are finally starting obedience class this coming saturday and I'm so excited for the classes and I'm very hopeful too.
