Need Help ASAP Okay I guess I will tell you about my little guy first. As my name states I am Radars mommy. I drove 14 hours to Pennsylvania to save my guy four years ago. He had been in a puppy mill for two years as a stud. When I got him his hair was matted so tightly to his skin he couldn't move without wear wholes in his skin. After a year of getting his infections cleaned up and getting him to good health he started to show his true self. He is full of attitude and rules over my Jack Russell. He now plays and understands how much fun his toys are and thinks he is bigger than the Great Dane that lives next door. So all in all with time he has became social, playful, and healthy. I love Radar very much but my husband is loosing patients with the fact that he refuses to use the bathroom outside or stay on a schedule. Radar will sometimes tell you he needs t go potty and most of the time will not. I praise him every time he uses the potty outside and just clean up the messes he makes in the house. I have tried the x pen, crating(once we got over the fear of crates), taking him out every half hour, belly bands, litter, dipers, you name it. Sometimes after an hour long walk he will come in and still pee or poop on my floors. I don't know what to do. Mind you I have grown up around dogs my entire life and have been potty training puppies to adults for 13 years. My father has a small farm where he breeds and raises a wonderful line of black labs and boxers. I rescued my Jack Russell and have overcome rescue potty issues before but with Radar I am at a loss and need help. When we owned our home with wood floors his potty issues were not so bad, frustrating but not ruining anything. We now have a home with carpet and I just found out I am pregnant ( can't have my baby crawling around on a yucky floor) and he is ruining the carpets of 300K home which is all my husband can see. I do not want to have to give Radar up, I love him very much and he is like a child to me. Does anyone have any last stitch suggestions to help my efforts to house train my little man? If I can not ge him potty broke in the next 7 months my husband says I have to find another home for him and I am crying just typing this. Please help Radar and iget on the same age if you can. Thank You In Advance, Radar & Brittany

Thor's Human Donating Member | How wonderful that you rescued him. When you say that you have tried everything - have you ever watched him so closely that you catch him before or during every accident? Here is what I did with Thor, with the caveat that he's only had two weeks accident-free so far: I put him in his crate and did not let him out until he pottied. I am pad training (he also goes outside). I had a brutal few days where he would spend 24+ hours in the crate, and I would take him out every waking hour and put him on the pad. I said "Potty" and did not let him off the pad. If he sat or laid down, or didn't do anything after a few minutes, I put him back. When he started pottying, I gave him a really good treat, and let him roam around one room for up to two hours. If he went two hours without another potty, I put him back in the crate and started again. After a few days he caught on and now goes every chance he gets. I think you could adjust this accordingly if you want to use potty bells, or simply take him outside on a regular schedule. My working theory is that there is a big difference in these dogs' minds between having just a few accidents and having zero accidents. You need to crate a zone where he cannot fail.

I say start at the beginning, with basic potty training (limit his free area again) and a GOOD potty treat! I use Peanut Butter chips from the baking isle. They are Yummy Rewards for good potty only... Have you looked into the potty pads with the fake grass? Or are you strictly trying outside potty only??? DoggiePotty Indoor dog bathroom. Doggie potty a training solution.

Have you read all the posts on the "YT Potty Log" in this forum. I am not good at the link thing, so hopefully someone will post a link for you. I think if you read about all our failures and now successes you might find some ideas that will help. Get out a pad and write down some of the ideas and see if you can adjust them to fit your house. I hope you find a solution for you and the dog.

Yep as soon as he got healthy I got him neutered. He was three ad he is very territorial about me or anything he thinks he owns. He and my husband have a whole dominance war going on. Radar is known for when my husband and I are hugging or kissing he will get in between us or if he can't do that he will pee on my shoe/pant leg. Yes I said he has marked me many different times now. Crazy as it sounds he has done it to me and small kids that he likes. (My poor niece is his favorite person and she is only 6 and he will pee on anything he can find that's hers.) They play cute together she treats him like a little baby doll dressing him up and Pushing him around in her dolly stroller.

Now I understand.... I have one of those too - My Roxy - She has severe Separation Anxiety Issues. She pees under stress. She marks items on the floor. She pees where TJ eats, and by the water bowl. I don't think it is his potty training, it is more stress related

Maybe take him out in the AM and the PM for a good walk (at least 20 mins). And let him 'mark' on the walk till his heart content. Then come back in and use the belly band when he can't be trusted. The fake grass might be good too and get the fire hydrant He is trainable

Dogs with anxiety issues 'feel better' when they pee or poop - it is 'stress reliever' for that moment Exercise and Building Confidence (commands and tricks) ...can help a stressed dog! Last edited by TLC; 03-17-2009 at 08:40 AM.
