| help with biting Yorkie Suzi is now a yr old , and use to play bite, which was not corrected. Now, everytime I walk , she goes for my feet, pants, or toes. She has left bruises on the top of my feet. How do I train her to stop this behavior? She has really hurt me. It is not cute anymore, and I want to stop her agressive behavior. She also bit the top of my lip.

| Hi, you need to distract her as soon as this starts. There are a couple of ways to do this, if she understands basic commands always keep treats on you and the when she starts have her sit and stay and when she does give her a treat. The second is to walk around with a water bottle and spray her as soon as she starts. The thrid would be a can with a few coins in it when she starts shake the can the noise will divert her attention. Any of these should work, but none is a quick fix and will require consitancy on your part it could take a few weeks, you might find theat she is good for a few days and then goes back to her old ways the key is your willingness to continue with these exercises. Good Luck I hope this helps |

She was biting my toes when I was getting ready for work so I started wetting my hand and sprinkling her with water. Now all I have to do is turn on the facet. LOL I am thinking about using a water bottle for her other biting. I have tried saying "no" and turning away. She could care less. Sometimes I try to distract her by saying "go get your chicken (bully, baby, etc) and playing fetch, which she loves. I try to walk with her and wear her out also When she is in my lap biting, I tell her "no bite" and try to make her get off my lap. It just makes her more aggressive towards me. (trying to chew my clothes, tear the buttons off my clothes, dig on me, jump in my face) I have to just leave the room when she gets so rowdy. I think she may be over-stimulated by too much rowdy play. Any suggestions out there?

Try the can with coins keep it next to you at all times. I know it might sound mean but it really does work and you wont have to do it for a long time they pick up on it really quick.

| OK .... it's really important that you stop this behavior as soon as possible because it will likely get worse as the dog gets older when a dog is nipping at your feet when you walk you stop .... do not keep walking because the pup has focused on a moving target .... It's almost beyond teir control once this happens Stop and say NO BITE! loud enough to get their attention a water pistol is good too but you need to say it at the sametime Your pup has to hear the displeasure in your voice if they start nipping again when you start walking again you say NO BITE! again and pick them up and they either go in their crate or in an enclosed room You DO NOT allow them a second chance to bite If they are in your lap and this happens ... down they go Teeth do not touch skin again once they bite

| mscat, how is it going with Suzi? For some reason, Bonnie has gotten better the last 2 days. For one thing, I have taken Bonnie on a very long walk both days. I think she is tired. Instead of saying "No Bite" or No Bite Bonnie" I have been making the noise like "Uh Uh" really sharp and forceful. It seems a lot better than "no bite". She has been a lot sweeter too, sitting on my lap which she has never really done, and giving me kisses instead of biting. **Oh and I saw this on another thread. Try putting that bitter spray on your hands and feet. I thought that was a good idea that I might try if needed. Last edited by Sweetlips6; 03-18-2009 at 06:59 PM. |
