| Toby has become possessive aggressive I need some advice on a matter that seems to be getting worse as Toby gets older. He is about 8 months old right now. He turns into the tasmanenan devil when the following happens to him: He throws up and you approach him (i think he wants to eat it), his bed (very protective of it) and the occasional favorite toy is taken from him. He literally attacks and you have to jump up on furniture to save yourself. Very scary. He is the most lovable dog any other time, such personality. He loves everyone, very social with people and other dogs. Just sometimes he behaves very inappropriately. I was so shocked the first time he did it to me, I couldn't react. He bite my foot and broke the skin. He also weighs about 4 pounds. Ha Ha. When he does this I scream no and tell him bad. I think he knows its not right. I just don't want to have to deal with a dog that bites. He will be neutured this month, I don't know if that will calm him down. People tell me I need to show him who the boss is by grabbing him and holding him on his back for several minutes. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't want to have to give him up. |

| I'm not for any of the grabbing or hitting - I tell Maxwell no, he has a new brother and he is sometimes not happy to share. When he does something like that I tell him no and if it is real bad he goes in time out (pen) for 5 mintues and I don't even look at him and that hurts his feelings bad.... The bitting you thing makes me think something else is wrong - I would check with your vet even though it happens at very certain times there still could be something else wrong. |

| This is extremely dangerous behaviour and something which must be corrected ASAP. If you don't get it under control now it will likely get much worse as he ages. The next time he does it, grab him by the back of his neck, the scruff as we call it. Pick him up, by the scruff (you won't hurt him), turn him so he can see your face, tell him NO, Bad Dog and then put him in his crate. Do this every time he gets nasty. I will get right in the dog's face when I tell him/her NO. You must use a very forceful voice, that is not to say scream at the dog, just loud, controlled, forceful. Never allow agressive behaviour to go uncorrected, if you do you are telling your dog it is OK !. Personally I allow a dog to bite me once, if he bites me twice he's gone. A dog that will bite it's master is one you cannot trust around people and I won't have that kind of animal in my home. Good luck. |

| I have to post a story and I *swear* this happened with a friend's dog - not MINE!! She was having similar issues with her puppy. She got him at about 6 weeks of age. Not a Yorkie. Anyway, her vet BIT the dog to show the dog that it was not the Alpha Dog. I was shocked and a little appalled to hear that, but apparently it worked.
