| How long did it take you to train your baby to piss on the pads? Ive had my baby for 5 days now and i can't get hime to piss on the pads, he will piss on them if i hold him on the pad but as soon as i turn around he goes somewhere else, everytime he does it on the pad i give him a threat. So how long did it take you guys to train your baby? |

| I've had my baby for a week and he runs straight for his pad when he has to go. I started off my putting his pad in a basket then I would take him to the basket and watch him until he did his business then I would say good boy give him a bunch of love and kisses. I did that for a couple of day then put the pad on the floor when I caught him peeing on the floor I would say no and run him to his pad and say potty here when I would caught him doing his business on the pad same thing good potty over and over in a sweet playing voice. I didn't even train him with treat just a bunch of kisses and love. He's got it now he runs when he needs to go. Hugs

| What a cutie!! My experience with dogs is that males take longer to train than females. And some breeds are notoriously difficult to train. I've never used pads before this puppy...they weren't on the market with my last puppy. But I am finding them remarkable! I have had Puddin' ten days and she is almost 8 weeks old and she is using the pads fairly consistently now. What I do is watch her for the tell-tale posture...she has one kind of squat for peeing, a different squat for pooing. The minute she assumes the posture I scoop her up, take her to the pad, and say "go potty!" repeatedly until she does. As soon as she starts to go, I praise her lavishly in a high-pitched voice and as soon as she is done, I pick her up and cuddle her and praise her some more. No treats. That's the "big guns" to reinforce the behaviour if praise doesn't work. She spent the night in the bathroom and when I came in this morning, she had used the pad several times and there were no "bomb sites" on the tile. But she had an accident this afternoon. She's still learning, but for a not-quite-eight-week-old puppy, I think she's doing well. Perhaps my technique or some adaptation of it will help with your guy?

| Ahhhh.... It does take awhile...sorry to say Here are some tips. Young pups should NEVER have free run of the house/appt. You must keep his areas small and contained. Get some baby gates and xpen - The xpen is great b/c you can either keep it closed in a circle or you can have it open to "block" off areas. During training and puppy months, you have to keep a close eye on him, keep to the SAME routine and schedule and having HUGE positive praise party's for good potty behavior - followed up by a Yummy Treat! Mine are 4 yrs old and they still get a small treat for good potty - they actually come to 'alert' me when poop is on the pad - they want their treat... The treat I use is: Peanut Butter Chip from the baking isle. They are small enough yet so effective. This is used ONLY for good potty behavior |

| He sure is a cutie!! Good luck with the potty training....persistence and patience is the key and whatever you do, don't give him free run until he is to be trusted! Good Luck!

| My kota is 15 wks old, we kept him in the bathroom at night and during the day while we were @ work with his toys, crate/bed and pee pads, here lately i've wanted that spare bathroom back, so i've put his pee pads in the kitchen and his crate/bed in the living room. i go to work, close the doors to all other rooms of the house, and he has the rest. so far so good, i'm proud to say. i come home each day and he has peed and pooped on his pads only. yey!!! and knock on wood |
