| New 10 week puppy piddles when nervous? We are the proud parents to two little men, Cosmo and JJ who are almost 2 and just turned 1. We have never had any "piddle" problems with them. However, our new little addition Benjamin is 10 weeks and sometimes cowers and piddles when approached. I know I have read on this somewhere in one of my Yorkie magazines or books but couldn't find it today. Please help, I know we need to change our approach and tone of voice or something in order to hopefully help him become more secure and thereby stopping the behavior...Help us Yorkie owners you are our only hope...(sorry watched Star Wars with my 3 years nephew today, he loves the classic)

| When a dog pees when you approach, she is showing you that she thinks that you are the top dog. It is her way of saying, "I am submissive to you don't worry." Females do this a lot. Use a gentle voice, and pet her under the chin instead of coming right at the top of her head. I have only had a Yorkie for two days, but I read four books about them in the last 3 weeks getting ready for her, so all of this Yorkie trivia is fresh in my mind. Elizabeth & Sugar |

| This is a dog's way of showing submission It sometimes happens with puppies and they grow out of it but some nervous dogs don't grow out of it To help what you can do is modify your approach so you're not as threatening For a while try not to reach down to grab your pup call him to you and let him sniff your hand first try and get lower to the ground too crouch down so you're not so high above him also watch the tone of your voice try and be as sootheing as you can when you talk to him

| Meka use to do that when she was younger. Especially when someone new was approaching her. Its mostly due to excitement and definately something they grow out of. The only thing that seemed to help, was if I picked her up as soon as someone new was approaching. And kinda introduced her, and have the greeter not make such a big deal over her.. Hope this helps

| Thank you everyone for your all of your advice and articles!! I finally found the information in one of my 5 yorkie books and online too! We are using our gentle voice no high pitches and also taking your advice and not reaching down but instead letting him come to us. It seems to have already made sign of improvement...no incidents in two days! Hooray...now if I could just get him to poop outside..lol I know with my other two this took time..a lot of time for it to completly catch on so until then he is getting tons of praise, cheerios and crate time at times like this when I am on the computer!
