New puppy is biting I am looking for suggestions. I have had my little yorkie, Deb for 3 weeks. She is 10 .5 weeks old. She has been doing great, but for some reason yesterday she started biting a lot. I know that she is going to try to bite at some things some of the time, she is a puppy, but this is different. She is biting harder and most of the day yesterday and again today. Saying "No Bite" had been working to deter her until we were able to give her something suitable to chew on, but that has not worked for the last few days. Any suggestions?

I think all puppies chew and some begin to bite a little harder than you would like. Chloe was doing this when I would brush her or if she wanted down out of my arms to go play. Now, I seem to know when to brush her......usually at night when she is out of steam. lol As far as suggestions, I will say no, in a very deep voice then put her down. She will see that you mean business, if every time she bites, you just say no and put her down and walk away. Chloe only chews now, but very gently!!! Also, remember that they are teething now and they are just babies!!!!! Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose

Thank you Joy! I am trying to be consistant in the training and will def use NO more sternly. She is mostly doing this with my youngest son, she bites his feet. He says NO BITE and tries to walk away, but she sinks her little puppy teeth in his sock and wont let go. It is almost like a game to her. She hasn't hurt him, but he is starting to be a little afraid of her. I dont want it to become more agressive and I dont want my nine year old to become afraid. Also, could you tell me how to get a picture of Deb as my icon?

When Misty bites or "gets mouthy" as i call it. I take my pointer finger and give her a tap on her nose. Now as soon as I just put the finger up ...she stops.

Hi. Whenever your puppy starts to bite, put your hands up, palms out, tell him no, you are not his toy, go get a toy and play a little with him. Keep repeating, he'll get it. Under no circumstances should you let him do this because he is a puppy, it is cute, etc. I keep toys where mine have easy access, also don't give too many toys at a time, it confuses them. If you lower your voice to kind of a growly, low tone, your puppy will learn you mean business when that tone is used, for training, including potty. Hope this helps.

Deb's progress Thanks for all the tips. She did seem to have a better day yesterday. She seems to be better at stopping once she starts the biting, I just have to keep it up so that she eventually won't start Don't worry, I know that is a long way off I love being able to talk to people that know what to do when you have a problem Thanks again!!! I will keep you updated on her progress!
