| biting and niping I'm in the same boat with the same name. I'm trying the no attention when he does it. He usually bites and nips when we are playing. He sucks and bites when he wakes up in the morning or from a nap. He was going after toes when I first got him, but grew out of that, so I'm hoping its just a stage. I've invested in plenty of Nylabones (the flexi ones). He's got through a two. That was one of the first things my Vet told me...she has a no teeth on skin policy with her dogs and if they do, just stick a toy or bone in their mouth. Let me know if some your doing different is working for you. |

| The nose-tapping doesn't sound like the best idea to me... seems like the puppy would interpret that just as, whoo! Let's play rougher! Arrrr! LOL From what I understand, the ignore method works fairly well (stand up, and no eye contact even, if possible, for at least 10 seconds or so). We did a little of the ignore policy, but lots and lots of replacing fingers with proper chew toys immediately after a quick sharp "No biting!" Once his teeth were around the non-human chew toy, we praised him. These included everything from stuffed animals to nylabones to the most wonderful and fabulous bully sticks. At a little over 5 months old now, and at the height of teething (we noticed two more missing teeth today!), Nikko really doesn't try to chew us anymore. Sometimes he still gets too excited during play and forgets himself, but it's almost always a mistake because he's going for the toy in our hand - not the fingers themselves. Hope that helps a little... Be patient. :-) I'm sure others will chime in with other tips for you as well. And please, go check back through old posts - there are tons and tons of posts about biting, biting inhibition, etc. Lots of different opinions, and lots of helpful advice. Lauren & Nikko |

| Lemonlauren is absolutely right ... you tapping the puppy's nose is sending a signal that you are "playing" with him and he's going to bite Harder .... and you "telling" him what a bad boy he is just thinking that you are a big pink squeeky toy When they bite Hands go up .... feet and toes go into shoes and you say NO! or NO BITE! or whatever reprimand you wanna say But attention stops right there and you will see .... they get the point almost immediately

| What works best for me with Boo and Gracie Ruth was to yip real loud and high pitched, like a puppy who's been hurt followed by the command Quit. This stoped them immediately and they start to lick my hand instead. As if they are kissing the owie and saying they are sorry. Pretty much now all I have to do is say Quit. Yogi, however, sigh...my sweet little bumbling Yogi boy, will just do the adorable head tilt thing and look up at me as if to say, "Hey Momma, that was a funny noise. Whys for you made that funny noise?" Then he'll usually try to climb up me to give my face a kiss. The yip does stop him but not because he thinks he's done something wrong. Stinker!

| You're NOT alone. My Yorkie-Poo is 12 weeks old and is the Biting Queen right now. It was OK at first but yesterday AND today she bit my 3 year old son on the ankle. She got in trouble both times about it and today she's "not speaking to me" becuase I scolded her for biting my son. She was being playful at first, but then she got mean. UNACCEPTABLE. I read that they're done teething by about 16wks then I'm sure it's not as bad. Reese isn't bad about it today after getting in trouble! Just keep lots of squeeky toys for your little one. It wont last forever..... I hope.

| My parents learned a great trick from the Vet when they got their dog about 4 years ago. Take a tin can, fill it with some beans and seal it up. If your dog starts biting or doing something very unacceptable, shake the can. It stops them dead in their tracks! Works like a charm..... ......must...get....can.. of...beans..... SOON!
