Confused potty....

I am having a horrible time potty training my furbaby!!! I have tried takin him outside for walks and we walk for 30-45 minutes and he still hasn't went to the bathroom the minute we get inside he trys and finds somewhere to go... apparently I am not doing something right.. I have tried the puppy-pads and he got to where he was tearing them up and I would much rather go outside.. I just can't get him to give me any signs of going to the door to let me know he is ready to go potty, he will be 3 months on the 15th of January!!!!
PLEASE HELP!!!

he is still really young to expect too much from him! Just keep working at it. It seems that about the time you feel like they will never ever figure it out, that they will finally get it and surprise you!

I just (last night) got my 5mos. old to go outside. I am in shock. She was trained to pee pads then began ripping them up! So...I crated her after she ate & drank. I took her outside every 20 min. (for 10-15 min.) & gave her the "go potty" command. It took about 4 hours, but she finally went! I gave her a cheerio immediately to reinforce her going outside. (cheerios are the only "treat" she will eat.) Then, I crated her overnight (yours cannot probably do that yet.) I woke her up early this morning & took her to her potty spot straight away. She went pee & poop almost immediately. Again, reinforce with the cheerio. Now...I have to keep it up during the day (today.) Hope she doesn't pee or poop when I am not looking. I really don't want her going on pee pads anymore, or going all over the house ! Good luck.

my puppy is almost 4 months old. I am in the process of potty training him too. He is getting good about going oustide and has found his spot however we are still getting accidents in the house. He just pee in his crate this morning. I am not happy about it. Anyways, i have similar problem to yours. My puppy won't let me know when he needs to go. So I have to just guess. It is very difficult to know. I tried using the bell system and for some reason bells scared the living daylight out of him. He refused to go near the door with the bells hanging close by it and if he does go he gets all jumpy. When he is outside, he continues to get jumpy and won't concentrate on what he needs to do. I feel like giving up too. My husband's coworker said that she potty train her puppy by crating it for a week. She takes the puppy out of the crate only to potty and eat then right back into the crate. Within a week her puppy was potty train. I stated doing that yesterday with my puppy. I feel bad letting him stay inside his crate but it worked a little. He barked when he needed to go potty or eat. I took him to the door and made him seat...gave him a treat for sitting. I took him outside and he went straight to the spot to do his business. I don't have to wait for him for a long time. I guess Charlie will be in a crate for a week. I did take him for a walk twice yesterday after he went potty to work him out before putting him back in the crate.

maybe that will work cause he barks in the morning when he gets up to go out and go potty he just wont ever go i mean he will sniff if i let him outside for a hour!!!! and i constantly tell him "go potty" and it is like nothing... do you take him out where there is nothing else around or maybe where htere are plants and stuff...

when he wakes up in the morning, pick him up out of his crate and don't let him touch the ground, and bring him directly outside and repeat a certain phrase everytime such as "go potty." never let him wander around in the morning, because every morning they usually definitely have to poop and pee.

consistency and schedule is the key! give them the same schedule basically every day and get them used to that. if you take them outside and they don't go, put them a pen or crate and keep them there for another ten-15 minutes and then try again!

we live out in the hot desert in CA so it is hard to find a nice grassy area for him so his bathroom spot is by the side of the house with lots of dead leaves and branches and everything else. I take him there and he usually will sniff around and eat things first before doing his business...

all day today i have worked with him really well.. i have kept him in his crate with of cource his bed toys and all that stuff but the minute he barks i get him out take him outside and put him on his leash and tell him "go potty" then go back inside i watch him from the window and the minute i saw him go i took him a treat and told him "good boy" though he has only done this once today but he is doing better then what i thought he would do... then the minute we get back inside i put him back in his crate and he is learning to bark and let me know when he is ready to go out.. so hopefully this crate trainging will work.. cause i am def. not into the puppy-pads and apparently he isn't either... thanks for your help though!!!!

that is great! i am glad it is working for you as well. I feel bad putting him in there all day but he needs to learn. I have such a hard time not being able to play with him. My husband yells at me all the time. Anyways, keep me up to date on your process. I will be sure to share mine too. Today we already have 3 accidents inside the house b/c i was busy bathing and cleaning him. Hopefully no accidents tomorrow. by the way how big is your crate? i don't really have a crate but something call the sportpet kennel (not metal)..charlie has lots of room to move around in and it fits his bed.

hmm sounds like you're doing pretty much the right thing! only other advice i can give... walk him on a leash outside, unless i mis-read you and you do do that. but i know w/ jackson, when i just let him outside... he won't go. i have to have him on a leash saying "go potty" for him to go.

jackson has only had 2 accidents in the house in the last 4 days and he's 13 weeks old. and he's begun barking to let me know when he has to go. this is basically what i've been doing with him:

7:30am-ish- he wakes me up, I take him directly outside, he pees and poops and gets treat and gets 20 mins playtime so he associates going potty outside with freedom.
8am-ish - while i'm on my college break & not working, we go back to sleep around 8am so he sleeps with me in my bed from 8am-9:30am-ish.
9:30am - take him back outside after our "nap" and he goes pee. i feed him his breakfast, food and water.

while i'm home & keeping my eye on him... he gets roam of my bedroom which has a baby gate in the doorway. when i leave the house, he stays in his x-pen with his bed & toys or in his crate. while i'm home, i take him out every hour approx.

5:30pm-ish - he usually gets his dinner and then outside again right after that.
10pm-ish - bed time! he has started sleeping in my bed for the past 2 weeks sleeps through the entire night until 7am, hasn't had one single accident on my bed, nudges me and licks my face at 7 to go potty!
