| Help with barking! He is 12 years old.... My baby is 12 years old and is use to a normal feeding schedule and goes out regularly with no health issues. Whenever I have people over my house he consistently barks from the time people get to my house until they leave, there is no calming him down. When the evening comes and I sit on the couch to watch TV or a movie,or if I get on the computer or standing in the kitchen... he will sit for 10 - 15 minute time-spans at most, then begins to bark. It isn't because he needs attention or has to go outside, he gets quite a bit of attention and has no issues with going poddy. The only time he stops barking for a long period of time is when I go to bed, sometimes he barks at 8:30 at night because he wants to go to bed! What can I do to get him to sit still and not bark? It is getting to the point that I cannot have people over or there is no peace at night.. Any suggestions are welcome!! |

| Has he always done this, or is it a new behavior?

| He has gotten progressively worse as he has gotten older. It is like he gets nervous when people are here and there is no calming him down. For Christmas eve he barked from 4pm - 10pm when everyone went home. I tried to take him into the bedroom to calm him down and he wouldn't have it. I feel bad for him but it gets a bit nerve wrecking to deal with as well. |

| Hmm ... it sounds like this might be a stressed out little dog Yorkies can be very vocal but for him to remain barking for so long isn't very good for him does he shake a lot? It maybe that he is just scared of people Why don't you try the intro training Have somene new come into the house have them just come into the room he might bark but don't have the person take notice let your dog go to them Give this person a treat for him to hold he is to leave it in his hand ... let your dog search it out make it something he loves .. that he'd come running for once he stops barking and goes for the treat then the person can give it to him and say GOOD BOY he'll assoc people with good things instead of being afraid

| How about if when your visitors arrive, you put your dog on the lead and walk along the street for a few minutes with the visitors. When you get back to the house, let the visitors go in first, followed by you and the dog..would that make things better do you think? I had to do that with my first dog, and it really helped...might be worth a try. |
