| Yorkies have damaged and dig up plants How do I prevent my 7 month old yorkie from digging up my bulbs and plants....they even sat on the flower pot and went up to my outside table. In the night I have both of them in a cage which took a while for me to get them used to it. I tried Cayenne Pepper, black pepper, egg shells.,..... leaves, mulch. Nothing works.. How can I prevent the dogs from getting into my flowers and other plants... it is getting very expensive. I have some nice moss type plant I had been taking care for 6 months... they both use it like a bed... and for other grass --- oranament type ground covers.... they also use it as a bed. Problem is I let them out [if it is warm enough] during the day when I go to work and then when I get back.... about 4-5pm... a lot has been done and I am not sure if I should put them on a leash type ... afraid they might get choked up by the leash. suggestions? I think they are regular yorkies... about 5-7 lbs range...not the toys or micro ones as we have little kids. Last edited by pectin232; 12-28-2008 at 12:30 PM. |

| Welcome to YT. I don't have a solution for you, because my guys don't bother my plants, but I'm sure someone will.

| Can you just take some chicken wire to fence off the area that you don't want them in? Why are you leaving them outside all day? Yorkies aren't outside dogs and I know it has to be cold there by now.

| You're going to have to fence off the area you don't want them to be in Yorkies are diggers and without you there to tell them NO! They are going to definitely get into a freshly dug bed

| Yorkies are not outside dogs. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to pick at you and I know you didn't ask, but they really should not be left out by themselves all day. A hawk or any other kind of predator could get to them. It happens. Not to mention, anyone could steal them. I would leave them indoors during the day with potty pads so they can potty and not mess up your floors.

| Definitely no leash..they can choke and die. I had a friend who put leash on her golden retrievers just to let them dry out outside and they died choking from the leashes. Never do that. I agree with the others..they shouldn't be outside for that long especially without supervision.

| Truthfully, I wouldn't let them outside unsupervised. It's dangerous and anything could happen. BUT onward! I learned this on It's Me or the Dog. Get a sandbox ONLY for the dogs. Teach them that the sandbox is their's to dig.
