| Crate training question We have decided to crate train Krissy. I do work but my husband works shift so there are only 2-3 days a week she will be in the boy's bathroom with paper that up until this point she has done great with. I just got tired of watching her every moment and my brother in law suggested the crate training. So far she has done great and we are even doing it at night and only have to get up once. She is 3 months old. How long does it take for it to click to them that they have to go outside? I know everyone is different and that it may take longer because of the days she is in the bathroom. I have house trained dogs before but it has been awhile and I don't remember. I am off the next two weeks and we are only traveling 2 days and taking Krissy. I hope to make some progress. I know that i am asking questions that could have numerous answers but that is what I want to hear. Shannon |

| It took mine six months - when we got her I asked the breeder and she said accept the fact that yorkies take six months to a year. I swear it's because their little "messes" are so little you don't find half of them! I am getting the puppy bug again and someone has advised me to crate train - is that easy?? |

| i really believe crate training is the way to go! otherwise, you have to watch them like a hawk to make sure they don't go and it's nearly impossible to potty train them. when you can put them in the crate, they naturally (usually) won't go where they sleep so they hold it while they're in there. plus, it's kind of like a safe place for them to go, like their den. my jackson (he's about 9 weeks, almost 10) has been doing great! he sleeps in his crate at night and lately he's been waking me up around 4am to potty by barking at me. so i take him right out, and he goes! i give him his treat and he goes right back in the crate back to bed. then this morning he woke back up around 8am and started barking again to go. usually at this point, i let him come in after going potty and have playtime in my room. it's a schedule i've got him on, where it's constantly an hour or so in the crate (unless i'm gone and not home, it's longer) and then outside, playtime, back in the crate, repeat, lol

| Thank you so much for feedback - that is what my friends have said. I just worried about a yorkie's tender feelings - my friends did it with bigger dogs. I can say my older "rescue" Yorkie goes under my living room table all the time - we call it her "cabana" so I wondered if a crate would give them the same safe feeling. Now to just find the puppy!! |
