| Not his fault our ours, but still feel awful... I know it's dumb, and I really shouldn't for LOTS of different reasons, but I still feel suddenly overwhelmed and bad. :-( Nikko is still on coccida meds, and is still pooping soft-serve all the time, and we are still washing his butt after every poop and bleaching and washing everything all the time... so first of all, that is really wearing us down - it's been over two weeks of doing that at this point now. On top of that, the poor guy has kennel cough too, and did have giardia but it looks like we got rid of that. But the great thing was that we had been so good about taking him out and watching him all the time, that he hadn't had a single potty accident in the house for over a week! That changed today though... We had him out, and he peed and had a huge poop, so after we washed him up and cleaned up, we were playing with him in his little area. He was so happy! Then he suddenly ran into his crate we had sitting out and open for him, and he squirted out another big poop, inside the crate. :-( Like I said, I know this really isn't our fault because we'd just had him out and this should have been "safe" fun time, and I know it wasn't his fault because he's still so young and new to us, and he's also sick with the poops on top of that. But after over a week of totally magical no-indoor-accidents time, I still feel a little crushed. I think I'm just overwhelmed and tired. It's hard to care for a brand new puppy, and even harder to care for one who's sick. I'm not really looking for suggestions or anything... I just wanted to vent a little. :-( I'm sure after a night's sleep, I'll feel better again in the morning. I can't wait until he can make solid little turds. And even more than that, I can't wait until he happily deposits them reliably outside on his own. Gosh I love him so much though, no matter what. | I know how hard these times can be....I had a really sick little girl when I brought her home in March. What I can tell you is that her being so sick and helpless caused us to bond so much more! She is my little angel and now that she is healthy and well, she is the joy of our lives! Stick with it - it's all well worth it and the bond created between sick puppies and mom's and dad's is something special. Good luck! |

| sending a big hug- i can't imagine how hard it is- the poor sweet guy. If he is on antibiotics he should be getting some probiotics- the easiest way is to give him pro biotic yogurt. The antibiotics could be what is causing his bad poop, even if the initial health problem has cleared up. Give that a try. Also i know it must be so hard to get him to go poop/pee outside- but when he does- give him a lot of treats right after he does it outside- he should start to put two and two together and might make an effort to go out- although i'm sure the urge to go comes on quite fast for him so right now it might be hard. Hang in there mom! he's lucky to have you |

| Thanks. :-) You guys really make me feel better! Took a stool sample in to the vet yesterday, and they said he still had the coccidia in his poo, so it's not just the meds... but we are giving him a tiny bit of yogurt once a day in between the meds anyways. I can tell he's getting better, gradually. Extreme wilder-than-spring-break potty parties happen outside immediately after any pooping or peeing outside... we've gotten many weird looks from neighbors and passerbys. Lolasmom, I hadn't really thought of all this sickness quite in that way, with the special bonding... I suppose that makes sense though. In a twisted kind of way, I guess that's the little silver lining to my whole buying from a byb experience (which I have definitely learned my lesson from and will never do again!!!!). Thanks again for indulging my pity party, lol. I feel a lot better this morning - he's curled up on my lap as I type this, just after a poop and a pee that happened outside. :-) Lauren & Nikko PS: We bought a really cool looking bell that's meant for a parrot cage, and we've finally given him access to the room with the going-outside door in it, so I think we're going to start working on bell training. I have high hopes for this ingenious bell-ringing idea I've heard so much about. :-) Last edited by lemonlauren; 12-10-2008 at 10:18 AM. |

| I feel your pain. My old blind/deaf Queensland heeler (a rescue) had severe intestinal issues - we think he had some kind of cancer - and while he was completely housebroken for 10 years before I adopted him, he quickly degenerated as he got sicker and sicker after I brought him home. He had one severe gastrointestinal infection and never recovered. Soon he could not hold his bowels at all and was having bloody diarrhea all over my house on a daily basis, even though I had him on antibiotics and anti-diarrheal medication. Imagine coming home from a long day at work and having to scrub blood and liquid poop out of a brand new white carpet (I have obsessive-compulsive disorder too, so needless to say, I almost had a nervous breakdown during this period...) I ended up putting him down in September after owning him for only four months because I was so overwhelmed by his illness and he had already cost me at least $150 in vet bills for every month I had him... Now my new yorkie pup Ollie is having minor housebreaking issues, but it's a BREEZE compared to the problems I had with my sick old dog; the size difference in poop alone is staggering to me. Good luck with Nikko, he's a doll baby! |

| Poor little guy ... It's tuff I'm up to my ears in puppy poop too Keep him in an area where he can have some missteps for now But don't scold him right now It will make him very insecure ...esp if he's sick right now
