| Need help with grooming.. My little Yorkie doesn't mind me touching his paws or ears..sooometimes. But when I try to brush him he tries to bite me and/or the brush. If I yell at him sometimes he'll stay calm enough for me to brush him but that doesn't take long. He's 3 months old, will he be able to get out of the phase? How can I help? He has such horrible tangles..I may have to get him shaved. |

| maybe he doesn't like the brush you use, could be scratchy to him. then you get sooo frustrated and yell and he gets confused. maybe try one of those brushes that go on your hand since he is still small. try to give him little treats when he's good when you bring out the brush. he'll calm and get used to it eventually. good luck!! |

| Teddy still tries to bite the brush when I get to his feet sometimes. I have found that keeping a supply of treats where I can get to them helps alot. I give him one when he is being good. His comb seems to work better for getting out tangles and he likes it better on his face than the brush. Keep working with him and try not to yell and it will get easier. Oh and sometimes if he is just totally against it I try again in a little bit when he seems to be more relaxed!

| Don't yell at him. You do not want to get him excited or make him afraid of brushing. Just stay as calm as possible. Stop only on a good note and then maybe praise him and give him a treat if you want. If he is being terrible just calmly continue even if you aren't really accomplishing anything. If you stop when he bites at the brush you are just teaching him that he can get you to stop. Wait for the couple seconds he is being calm to stop. Make sure you have a good brush that doesn't hurt. A good brush and correct brushing technique doesn't hurt and makes for a puppy that will learn to like grooming. Both of my yorkies come running when they see the brush in my hand and will push to be the first one in my lap.

| Careful... this isn't a phase and needs to be addressed because it will get worse not better with time I had a dog in the past who couldn't be brushed at all unless it was with a groomer which made life miserable with him your dog should never bite or attempt to bite you ever.... you need to make him realize that brushing and grooming is a normal and pleasurable experience sit him down and brush him .... praise him and talk to him calmly make sure you do it softly and massage and pet him at the sametime if he goes to bite .... AH! and to the floor .... shows over start again in a little bit keep doing this until he gets it that brushing is not threatening and is pleasurable
