| How quickly can I expand freedom? OK, I'm really anxious to give Nikko a little more room to roam in. Right now, he's only got a little maybe 4ft x 4ft area in the dining room where there's nothing else but his toys. If he's not there, he's on our lap or in his crate, so as you can imagine we haven't gotten much done here lately. He's a little over 12 weeks old, and we've had him for about a week and a half. No inside accidents for almost a week, partially due I'm sure to how closely we watch him and how often we take him out. And maybe the awesome parties we throw when he pees outside! Our pee parties make the neighbor dogs envious. It's hard to let him wear himself out so he will be happy in the crate though, because he doesn't have much room to run around in, and he hasn't had all his shots yet so we can't really take him out except for quick bathroom trips. Do you think I can expand and give him the whole kitchen? It's not like our kitchen is very big at all. Or am I trying to move things too quickly? He'd also probably be happier that way since he can hang out with us a little while we're doing kitchen things off and on during the day. So how fast did you expand? How fast should I expand? I can tell he's itching to get out of his teeny area and explore too, now that he's pretty comfortable in there. The other day I had him on my stomach in the living room while I was laying on my back for a minute exhausted (he's never been on the carpet in there yet) and he streeeeeettttched, then yaaawwwned, then streeeetttcched so his front paws hit the carpet *accidentally*, then another big streeeetttttchh and !!!! he was all fours on the carpet. He looked over at me to see if I noticed his sneaky little trick. I did. And I sadly plucked him up and carried him back over to his 4x4 tiled area. :-( Think I can at least give him the kitchen, or is it too soon? Sorry for the rambling-ish post... We appreciate your advice!!! It's so nice to get to talk to some experienced yorkie moms and dads! I don't know what I'd do without you all. Lauren & Nikko |

| You can give him more space now but you have to be prepared he may slip bakwards with potty training but he may not. I wouldnt give him full run of the house untill quite awhile later when hes definitely got potty training down and he wont chew on cords

| Pee Training We have Lilly who is 8 weeks, and not doing to bad. I would give your puppy another room, by his pee pad, to roam in the house, only if you are prepared to watch him non stop, almost to the point of staring at him constantly. If you have to leave the house, I would not let him run around by himself thats for sure. I will most likely have an accident. We also have Tico who is a year, and it took him that good year to potty train, and he still needs slight work. Sometimes he would be on a roll with the potty training, and other days, his brain would fall apart. |
