Potty training woes Greetings, First I would like to introduce my dog Loui he is now 4.5 months and 2.5 lbs. Knows to sit, lay down, and fetch. Now on to the tough stuff. We began housetraining him with puppy pads until last week, when our vet told us that we need to take him outside as he was tearing the padds apart and good get a small bowel clog or something. We live in an apartment and we take him down 1 flight of stairs to eleminate. The problem: He needs to go a lot at night enough so that everytime we take him out he goes. But in the morning we feed him around 6:30. My wife takes him out until she has to go to work at 8:30 he will usually go pee but not poop. Then in the 4 hours he is inside he poops in his crate. And as all you know this is not pleasent. We blocked off alot of his crate. And it continues. Please any advice as it is very upsetting. Best regards

I am in the same predicament. We live in an apartment as well. We have him in the crate ranging from 4 - 8 hours since I work full time and he goes to school full time. I've made a habit to make sure that we don't go to sleep until he does his duties so that he doesn't potty in the crate at night and he's really good about letting me know at night when he has to potty. I haven't been able to get Noah to even potty out side. It so cold out now that he just stands there and shivers. I would love to train him to go outside but its hard to get him to go on the puppy pads. There's times when he knows he suppose to go on the pads and just walks to them and does his duties. But other times he just does his duties where ever he feels.

My Lizzy is now 4 months and we are having such a hard time with potty training. We have a fenced in back yard and will let her out to go but she will wait untill we finally give up and come back in, then she will look at you and go in the floor. I don't know what else to do. she stays outside during the day while we are at work. Any suggestions?

feeding time?? what is the feeding schedule that you are on??? Dogs usally eliminate around 30 mins after eat or drink... My dog (3months) was doing the same thing but when i regulated the feeding time, it all stopped... I get up at 6am (i live in an apartment building) carry him outside fast.. put him down and he goes.. wait another 10 mins for #2 (he starts going in circles when he has to go #2) wait a bit longer he/she may be again..than go inside.. let them play freely for about 20 mins (one of you take a shower while the other gets dressed for work) after that 20 mins of play feed/water for 20 mins after that take it away and crate.. the next 45 mins or so get ready for work after that pick him/her up and take outside.. they will mostly just pee... (if you cant come home for lunch than... bring them back inside and i put my dog in a play pen with garage flooring on the floor covered in wee wee pads.. with JUST WATER.. and i leave for work... when you get home from work see how many times they peed.. if there is a fresh spot than you know that t hey have recently gone.. let them out feed and crate... 45 mns after take out ... pee (may be they will poop) brng back inside fresh water and play time..... Right before you go to bed take out again.. than crate till the morning... this is what worked for me.. ive learnd that all dogs have differnt potty rhythm.. learned the rhythm and you got it in the bag.. hope this was helpful...

i forgot somthing the smaller they are the smaller the bladders..the less they can hold... so you might not have to wait so long... thats what the vet told me about potty training..the older they get the longer they can hold it.. the muscles are stronger.. 4.5 months and 2.5 lbs is very little so lots of potty breaks for ya
