| training with belly band and bell How do you do it? I'm going to be ordering belly bands and putting a bell by the back door to ring when they go out. Now with the bell, if our cats would go over and ring the bell from trying to play with it, would it confuse Chip and Smokey? Does the belly band prevent them from peeing in it? See Chip is pee pad trained, but will ONLY go on the one in the bathroom. If he's not near the bathroom, he'll go where ever. If we have him outside though, he does know to go. Smokey on the other hand is more complicated... without going into too much detail... he is our rescue that had bad seperation anxiety and would potty in his crate from the anxiety. He now thinks that where ever he stands is where he should potty and he doesn't understand pee pads at all or the fact that he can pee outside. This is what I'm hoping to do: put the belly bands on them, then take them out every few hours. When we go out, I'll ring the bell and take the bands off of them outside. Now, how do I entice Smokey to actually potty out there?

| I had the same problem with my Zeus. I don't know any thing about belly bands but if you need help with potty training a guy who is used to going in his own kennel let me know. It can be done and Zeus is completely out side trained now. |

| A belly band is a wrap for male dogs that go around their waist line where their penis is. Usually it's used for dogs that mark.

| Ohh, thanks for the answer. Too bad they don't make butt bands so Tokyo wouldn't poop inside the house! |

| Ok, well I ordered a belly band and thought it would make him not want to pee. It actually increased how much he marked in the house. I did start letting him out of sight more often. Now, he is either in sight, on leash, or in the exercise pen. On sight means I am looking straight at him. Even on leash I keep a very close eye on him. I had the belly band on him for two days and then stopped using it. It was a hassle since he kept peeing in it and I would have to wash it. Make sure you praise them if they pee outside or on the pad. Luckily, Max doesn't pee in my room or mark in my room at all so he is allowed free roam in my room if I am there. Otherwise he goes in the pen. I took the belly bands off for the last three days and he seems to be improving. He did not pee in the house at all. I watch him like a hawk, especially near walls or a plant he likes to pee on. He isn't very treat motivated but I got him Yorkie Yummies and he absolutely loves these. He is getting neutered today (probably in surgery as we speak, poor baby). I hope that helps a bit. I forgot to mention, make sure to use really thick pads. It is really annoying to have to keep washing the belly bands. Good luck! Vanessa Last edited by nneessaa; 11-26-2008 at 11:49 AM. Reason: Forgot something |
