My neighbors just got a 3 year old yorkie/maltese/daschund about 3 days ago. She's an absolute doll (and I can't wait for Sasha to meet her) and hasn't been giving them any problems potty wise. Now when they put her in the crate for the night, that was an entirely different story. I know it was her first night in a different environment, but she bonded to them so quickly that I think she just wanted to be by them. All she did was cry and cry and paw at the crate door like there was no tomorrow. She eventually did fall asleep, but just wasn't happy being in the crate. The only reason that my neighbor put her in the crate at night was because her 97 year old mother lives with them and she gets up frequently during the night and little Lucy gets all under her feet all the time, which causes her to sometimes fall
They weren't sure what they were going to do when they had to leave her because her mom obviously can't care for her by herself when the leave the house and they don't want her worrying about her when she's screaming in her crate, so I gave her one of the gates that I used for Sasha (Sasha doesn't need them anymore
) and put it in their bedroom doorway (the gate is walkthrough) and told them to try putting a pee pad down in the room since she's awesome about letting them know. I haven't heard back from them about how last night was because I think they were going to try her in their bedroom like that (they can't close their bedroom door at night because her husband and emphyzema (sp?) extremely bad) so just in case that didn't work, does anyone have any other suggestions?
