| Going Back To Basics With Toileting Ugh, I spent 5hrs cleaning ALL my carpets today, (not an easy task with a demanding 9month old baby), with a odor eliminator shampoo. Kayla for some reason has decided that the kitchen floor, back hallway and the landing are for pottying. Doesn't matter how many times I let her out she will NOT go to the toilet outside. On the plus side she will not go to the toilet in the front room which is the only room that Amelia is allowed to play in. So now all the carpets are clean and Kayla is confined to the front room with with us now all day and not allowed free run of the house. I'm hoping that by making it so she can't get to the areas she likes to go she will start going outside. I'm not sure what to do at night though, she has a crate which she goes in if I'm out because she is a chewer. If you put her in the crate and you're home that she howls... the crate isn't really an option at nighttime because of Amelia being woken and I've only just got her settled to sleeping through the night again after her last teething episode and I'm not prepared to risk waking her. So I'm at a lose now.... Any opinions and advice on any area of retraining a 8month old is greatfully appreciated and taken into account.

| Aww Vicky, I'm sorry you're going through this! I think I would just start with the basics, as if she was a new puppy. You're right in cleaning up really well everywhere, and then keeping her confined to an area. If she does well without accidents in that small area, slowly increase it. If she has accidents, make it smaller. Also pretty much "crate train" her by using the pen/baby gates-take her out to potty after she eats, drinks, and wakes up. PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE for pottying outside, and then play with her before putting her back in the confined area. Eventually she will understand that pottying outside means praise, treats, and playtime, while pottying inside doesn't get such great reactions. I wish you my best! I hope she catches on soon!

| Sounds like good advice so far. I trained mine to the puppy pads cuz it gets too cold for her outside in the fall and winter. Back to basics on that would be to confine also except cover the confined area with the puppy pads and gradually decrease as she gets used to it. To me this is easier on me also cuz I dont have to worry about letting her out . Hope you find the right solution soon. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I feel for you Aiden is doing the same thing. He can be outside while my husband is out doing thing...sometimes for 1 hour or more playing, but comes in a goes wherever he wants. I have penned him,but at night he sleep with us,and he won't go on/in our bed at all. He is teaching my 11 week old puppy his bad habbits. I noticed Harley peeing on my throw rugs and pooping wherever, but he will go outside. I shampoo rugs weekly. My husband wants to rip up all the carpets and put down all laminate flooring, but that doesn't FIX the problem. I think I may have to start all over also. Yorkies are so hard to train. I've had 4 Dashunds and NEVER had one problem at all. I love Aiden to death, but he has made it rough around my house, even my teenagers are fed up.

Last night I crated her, I decided I wasn't prepared to risk her toileting on any of the carpets so I put her in her crate and put a blanket over it like I saw someone suggest on YT and that kept her quiet. First thing this morning I put her out in the garden and she pee'd. Let her out a couple of hours later... nothing! It's gone 2pm here and she's pee'd once today which was first thing. She's in the front room with me and Amelia and she is in my sight all the time so I know she's not been anywhere in here and she can't get out the room. I've taken her out several times but she just won't go. I wasn't expecting a quick fix by any means but I'm never going to get anywhere if she insists on just holding it in.

| I'm sorry Vicky-so frustrating! Eventually she'll pee, hehe...just gotta be patient, and watch her like a hawk. If you're using pee pads rather than going outside, then I really like the idea that jlafred mentioned, but if you want her to only go outside, then don't ever let them potty on ANYTHING in the house!
