Default ~URGENT!~I am soooooo lost with my Yorkie!!! help! ARGHHH!

I would like to tell you that i have a miniature yorkshire terrier and she is adorable but we have a BIG problem.
Whenever i go (without a high sweet voice,or a sweet high voice) and touch her she goes into a down position with her tail wagging like crazy on the floor then wets the floor. She is adorable and we have a big apartment that she can run around in and a park very near by i can take her to but we just put her in the cleaning room which doesnt have carpets.
we almost never let her run around the apartment because whenever someone touchs her she just wets herself. Everytime she does i say NAUGHTY GIRL NAUGHTY and her ears go down sadly. Im not sure what is the problem and i have told her off every single time that she wets herself with excitement of being payed attention and that is about 200 times. The thing that worries me alot is that she is just a bit over a year now and i hope that this isnt permanent. That is why i have come to these yorkshire pages and asked for help URGENTLY!
PLEASE REPLY AND I WILL REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
Thank you very much if you write a message here i will be very grateful.

It is called submissive urination. You need to ignore her instead of getting upset with her about it. Also a standing posture is dominant and brings out her submissiveness. If you will not reach for her from a standing position it will help a lot. Just sit down on the floor and call her into your lap. Or sit on the couch and let her come up to you.

It is not something that she has control of. It is just in her nature to be very submissive. The more you speak sharply to her about it just reinforces her behavior. Instead work on giving her more confidence and building up your relationship with her.

Here are some websites that explain this and how best to deal with it.
submissive urination - Google Search=

Some dogs are only affected when intimidated by your dominant behavior or posture, others only when they are excited and some in both circumstances. It sounds like yours is only when intimidated. If you follow the suggestions in the websites this kind can be easily avoided.

If you are not willing to work with her you might want to purchase panties or diapers for her.

It's sounds like it's excitement peeing...

I've read about this before..

My suggestion is whenever you want to give her attention, just bring her to the pee pad give her the attention there and wait until she pees, give her a ton of praises and a treat. And then let her run about. Good luck.

I think it's excitement peeing...

Bailey does that, whenever someone walks up to her. She gets excited about seeing them and pees, it's not much. The only time she does it is when she's excited about something. Thankfully, we are usually outside and it's the neighbors coming over to see her that gets her excited. And I have definitely learned not to hold her close to me...learned that one the hard way!

Yes, then I guess it is excitement peeing or both. Did you read any of the websites?

Dogs do this when they are not taken on long walks a couple times a day. You shouldn't confine her like that as it will just make her worse. Take her out for some serious exercise and walks, play with her, get her around as many people as possible and at dog parks.

Default Thanks

I do take her for a couple of walks a day well our maid takes it for about 20 minutes to the park. and then later i let her run about for 20 minutes again. But the problem is i get a bit scared about letting her of the lead because shes a very attractive sweet dog and all the huge labradors chase after her and try to do some nasty stuff with her and she gets a bit frightned with 3 dogs chasing her around so i have to pick her up. I have been trying something for the last few days. i take her out and she goes to the bathroom then i let her run around the apartment until the night.
and normally touch her fine and then get scared and touch the carpet but its dry! and taking her out for walks calms down her behaviour and if ignore her for a while until shes used to my presence she doenst go crazy when im going to touch her.

anyway thanks ! !!!
Thanks to everyone.

I have another question.
do you think this problem will ever change? and i can stop worrying about her wetting the carpet with excitement?
because shes about one year old now.

I like to call it "happy piddles." Sometimes they just get so excited that it all comes out. They don't really have much control over it. Once they get older, it won't happen as much.

Maggie does this also. She's gotten much better but has still done it when we first get to obedience class. I can control it at home by ignoring her when I first come downstairs but I have not been able to figure out what to do about the other dogs. Hopefully as we keep going to class she will calm down. She's much calmer during class now than at the beginning.

Have you considered "panties"? There are a few YT'ers that sell them. You can put a pantyliner in them. Many use them for little girls in heat.... BUT I think they might work for you....... and save the floors!! Good luck with your little girl...... in time, I think it should get better.
Sounds like she loves you and is so excited about you giving her attention!...

Most puppies go through this stage, I've noticed, when they're a few mos. old. It doesn't last long. The best thing to do is ignore her when you come home. This will stop!

Learning to communicate with her is the first step to ending the problem. I would offer that she does not understand that she is being scolded for the submissive urination. When training, particularly house training, scolding may give you the immediate outcome you want but it teaches the puppy something completely different, the puppy learns to fear you. You can see how this would worsen the submissive urination. Some will take a rolled up newspaper to a problem puppy and then wonder why the puppy now poops in the closet or behind the couch. He's been taught to hide when he needs to go. Not the intention but the outcome.

I would recommend housetraining 101, start at the beginning and crate train her. Give her lot's of praise before taking her out of the crate and if there is submissive urination at least it's in the crate. Second in the routine is to go "outside" for a romp and to empty the bladder, once she has accomplished this she has earned some free time to roam inside the house. After a while the routine starts over again. Set her up for success in her daily routine, it will cut down on your stress level and make you a better pet owner while giving her small successes which continue to build her confidence. Confidence on her part is the final answer to the problem.

Good Luck!!
