| 1yr barking problems!Barks at my kids! Well my Saint will be 1yr next month. My DH bought him for me back in Feb 08 for Valentines Day.He was 3 months at the time. Well I noticed back in maybe March or April that he was starting to bark here and there and I would said no or be quiet Saint. We move alot being military and we've already moved and we've only been here for 8 months. The house we were first in the dogs surrounding out home that were outdoor dogs constantly and I do mean constantly barked. It was one right across from us that would bark from like 4am till like 7 pm. Do y'all think maybe all the barking provoked him to start? Moving on once we moved in our new place a few weeks later we started having company, barbecues etc....Everytime someone would come through the door he would bark.I've also noticed that now if my neighbor comes out of her door or if her kid is playing on the porch he'll bark. Now after like 1 month I notice when someone comes over he'll bark for up to 5 mins if you let him.Sometimes its like agressive and then its like give me attention. His crate is in our laundry room right by the back door.We now make people come through our front door. In our laundry room we have so many cabinets that I keep alot of stuff for the kids in there. So they get snacks and stuff from there.I have a 9yr and a 4yr.My 9yr daughter walks him and feeds him.My 4yr son helps out or just comes along for the walks and stuff. They do not mistreat them but he'll bark at them like they are stangers if they are getting snacks or if they are in the kitchen going about their business. I don't understand this.I now say "No" to him without calling his name.I looked at Its me or the dog and she was mentioning saying their name rewards them.Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I was thinking about getting some kind of anti barking device and sitting it on the counter in the laundry room to try and help with the barking because I have a baby coming any day now and a husband that will be deploying to Iraq very very soon so I need all the help I can get. Any suggestions are welcomed. |

| Umm, are you saying he lives in the laundry room??? He's probably bored and lonely and that's why he barks. I would guess any behaviorist (and I'm not one) would say something similar. But, I could have misunderstood your post.

| Nooooo but he does live there at night and when we have company and he'll be in there while company is over the whole time cause he gets too hyper.Other than that he sits by my feet.i tried to correct myself in my post but it said i had to wait 5 mins then it said ask admin so i never clarified what i was trying to say.basically in and out the crate he's a barker.i don't want to be sitting with the baby and he's right by my feet and he startles her when someone comes to the door to visit. |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | hehe i am not sure but a lot of members on here use the squirt bottle method to correct a lot of different behavior ... mainly barking... some state that after some time once the dog see them pick up the squirt bottle they stop immediately... other have success with pennies in a can also...they shake it when the dog barks and the dog will stop...you can do a search on the forum for squirt bottle, pennies in a can...and I am sure you will pull tons of threads up on the topic...good luck!
