| Need some advise! Well you guys, I guess this subject seems to be the hottest one so far.... everyone wonders about potty training.... My bella is 8 months now and when a I though that I was done with her potty training outside and inside.... now she won't even go on the pad anymore.... First she was doing do good.... 80% pad 20% the corner of the pad so she had a little bit of urine on the carpet. Now for some reason she won't even go on the pad anymore, which my carpet has multiple stains and I've tried every product out there to get it out and nothing..... so my husband and I decided maybe it's time to just steam clean the carpet area and take the pads away and just put one in the bathroom and retrain her? Another thing is that I don't know if it has anything to do with changing the pad? I bought another kind same brand but biodegradable...... SO what do you guys think? what is the best brand of wee wee pads? Best technique to change the potty spot? Has anybody here tried bell training for the door to potty outside? Pleaseeeeeeeee I need some adviseeeeeeeee I feel really sad because I get a little frustrated and I know after bella has done her thing it's too late she doesn't know why mommy is mad..... I just cannot find the right way to train her better and not get mad cause she is going to make my husband kill me because of the carpet Thank you ladies, I hope someone out there can help me..... |

| Potty training First of all, I wouldn't use a pee pad. I think they are bad ideas. Probably the only way to get rid of the smell and prevent your Yorkie from smelling it and pottying in the same place would be to replace that carpet and pad! A professional carpet cleaner might be able to inject the spot with something that will take the smell out. I would just let your Yorkie outside every 2 hours and crate her at night. My youngest Yorkie is 13 months old and has been able to hold it for 10 hours through the night for several months now. Occasionally the mother, who is about 3 years old, will let me know she has to go outside, but usually I just ask them and they run to the door. When they are active, the two younger ones have to be taken outside every 2 hours or they will have an accident. We got our yard fenced in and it was a God send! The dogs love it and so do we! As far as training them to tell you by ringing a bell, you have to start when they are young puppies, take them to the door, take their paw and ring the bell, and immediately put them outside. I don't know if waiting until they are 8 months old, this will work, but I think it might. It's worth a try. I had a neighbor who trained her Schnauzer to ring a bell and I thought that was so cool. I should have done that with my three Yorkies, but guess I was too lazy. When I tried doing this with a Lhasa puppy, I used some bells that came from Pier One and trailed down a string. I hung it from the door knob. He was catching on quite well, but alas, I didn't keep it up. Lorna Newlin Owner of Three Yorkies |

| Lorna is correct it is very hard to get the scent off the rug. I would get a professional cleaner to clean your carpet inside out. I know one couple who invested into a steam cleaner and used it as soon as their dog had an accident. Fortunately for me we prepared ahead of time and changed our living room to hardwood floors before bringing the little guy home. This made cleaning and the potty training go easier. It's been two months since we had him. He is 6 months old now and hasn't had an accident in 4 weeks. Best of luck to you! |

Thank you for your quick reply Lorna, the only problem I've had in the past is that I'm not always able to take her outside every two hours, my husband and I work and have busy schedules and are not always at home to make it a routine for her every two hour and also we live in a complex where we do not have a fenced yard where I can just let her out on her own so it makes it a little bit more difficult, but it's worth to try right? | |
