Only Poop Inside Toby has learned how to pee outside, but no matter how long i leave him outside, he will not poop outside. He just sits at the door and whines and barks like crazy. As soon as he gets inside, he poops. Can anyone help me out?

What I did was go outside with her and hang out...she eventually did have to go outside~ I could especially have better luck with that in the early a.m. than any other time of day- Keep working with Toby...then GO CRAZY and make a big deal when he does!

I would get a small xpen (too small to really "play" in) and put it outside in an area safe from hawks or whatever but where you can see it from the house. Take him out when it should be time for him to poop (usually early morning and late evening, or for puppies, after they have eaten)and give your command..."hurry up" or "go potty" or whatever you say. If he doesn't go, back up few steps and keep repeating this until you are back in the house. Continue to watch until you see him go and then run out and praise him big time and take him back inside!! Keep doing this for several days and it won't be long until he figures out that he is not coming out of the xpen or getting any attention from you until he goes potty. Another idea is to tether him to you, hook his leash to your belt loop so he stays with you in the house and as soon as he starts to do the "poo poo" dance (they all have one) take him out to his poo poo area and praise him big time when he goes and give him a treat. Good luck. Last edited by SoCalyorkiLvr; 08-13-2005 at 10:56 AM.

poop surprises Bella is seven months and finally going without accidents(Some days) . It is really important to monitor when they are pooping try to get it on a schedule of times you take it out on a leach to poop. Wait for him to go. If he does not go keep him right with you or in a penned area. Just be consistant. They have to train you before they get trained. Everytime they eat take them out. Wait and walk them around. Eventually with a lot of praise and maturity they will get it! Yeah!

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Magic has been having this problem lately...we finally got her to starting peeing outside again but we haven't got the pooping down yet...what we have been trying is only rewarding her for going outside, if she pees or poops (sometimes) outside, we make a big deal of it and reward her big time...it seems to be helping slowly for us...maybe something like that will work!!

Sabrina too! ARen't they something?? She's paper (wee pad) trained at home, and when we visit, she thinks grass is for chewing on and carpet is for poop. I've stayed outside with her for an hour or more and nothing, go in and splat. But - she's an inside dog, visiting outside dogs (I was working when I got her so she is trained that way). I just take cleaner everywhere I go and clean it up immediately and no one complains. Sorry - no suggestions on this one.

thanks for all the help guys. but still no resolution to this problem. i've tried walking him until he poops, keeping him in a pen until he poops, letting him out and if he doesnt poop put him back in the crate, etc. still nothing. the moment he reaches the carpet, he goes. its like he holds it in until he gets to carpet. but on the brighter side, he never pees inside!
