| Can Anyone Reccomend A Good Dog Training book Can anyone reccomend a good training/behavioral book. Jersey is 17 months old and out of the blue has become dog aggressive or probably a better word would be dominance aggressive/territorial. We have had her from 10 weeks old and she's been fine with my girls (yorkies) all of them including Jersey is spayed. Have been spayed since pups. The last month she has been very dominant with them. The dominance has now become unprovoked attacks. Well, I'm sure in her mind they are provoced but it can be something as simple as them coming to sit by her, sit too close to her or simply walk by her. I posted to find a good home with a semi retired person/couple with no children or other animals. I have not found the right one yet but I would also like to try hard to get her out of this. I do not want to rehome her but I believe at this point she is capable of really hurting or killing one of them or getting hurt herself. I mean how much are the girls going to take before they go back at her. Jersey is 5 lbs. my two teapots are 17 lbs. and 13 lbs. so they can really damage her if they wanted to do so. My two little ones are only 3.5 lbs. and 4 lbs. and I'm very fearful that the 3.5 will really get hurt or killed by Jersey. She is great with people, but skittish with strangers. If anyone can reccomend a good book to read that may help I'd appreciate it. I've spent close to $400 at the vets thinking it could be medical but it's not. She does have allergies and her ears have trouble as it's secondary to the allergies. My vet gave a reccomenation of a behavorialist and in depth medical testing but to the tune of $3,000 - $5,000. I've been going to them for 13 yrs. and although I've been told it's all about the money. I've never seen it until now and I really feel as though he's trying to take me for a ride. I can't afford $3,000 - $5,000 especially when he told me it's no guarantee they will be able to help. If anyone can help me with some books to read I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Elaine |

| Elaine, I did have a handful of aggression books that I bought for when TJ was younger (approx. 1 y/o) as he began to attack Roxy (very, very bad) to the point of biting and hurting her and she retreated very far into her scared shell....BUT...of course I gave them away and I meant to write the titles down, but forgot... I will try to look into some of my old files and see if I can come up with anything. |

| No luck...I tried to look into my half.com and amazon.com previous orders but they were from 2005-2006 and there's no history left. I know the first book I got was something like Help for Your Shy Dog (for Roxy) and then TJ turned into a vampire, always attacking her (really bad) so then I got a bunch of books about Agressive Dogs and Training - I think I may have looked into the Authur of the Shy Dog book and went on from there. I am going to see if I have any paper work at home though. |

| This is the only other recommendation I could find.... Jean Donaldsons book: The Culture Clash Understanding the relationship between Humans and Domestic Dogs |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Not discounting the recommendation your vet gave and fully understand this may be a geographical issue also...but my neighbor hired a behavorist to come in her home...4 hours and it cost $150. Granted the neighbor is still responsible for doing her "homework"...but she says it really made a difference in her dog's behavior. So I'm wondering...if there is someone there whose pricing is a little more reasonable. Scootie bootie, here, gives consults via email. That may be an avenue to persue also. Good luck...I hope you find something that helps.

| My favorite books are by Patricia McConnell and Pat Miller, however you don't need a book you, need a trainer. I Googled APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) members in your area. Check out: Big Tail Waggin' Dog Training: "All About Roseann" and Monmouth County, New Jersey Dog Training - URBAN DAWGS (NJ) - RED BANK DOG TRAINING (serving Monmouth County) - Positive, Reward-Based Training for Dogs of All Ages! Most trainers will do an in-home consult where they can see the problem take place and then work with you to show you what you need to do. I hope that helps!
