| Franklin is making me miserable! Since we've moved, Franklin has turned into a nightmare! For the first week he was a perfect angel. Stopped barking, stopped being mischievous.. he would play with Maggie for a while but then would sleep most of the day. I thought he was finally calming down from his puppy stages. Everyone told me that he would calm down after about ten months. Well he is ten months today! We've recently had to switch him to a wire crate instead of his playpen due to lack of space. He normally does great with it - during the day when we leave and at night when it's bedtime he's a perfect angel. At first he would sleep until we woke up and let him out. Now he's waking us up earlier and earlier. First it was 10:30, then 9:30, and then 8:30! At first we thought that he would wake up whenever our alarm would go off but now he's waking us up way before our alarm is supposed to go off. He NEVER did this when he was in his expen. Sometimes in the mornings I'll be the first one up so I wake up, take them out, feed them breakfast, and put them back up when I leave for class or work. This usually works out fine. Well this morning he woke us up at 8:30 and it was our day off so we took them out, fed them breakfast, and put them back up (like I normally do). No luck. He started barking and barking and barking. I would just let him bark it out but I live in at apartment with other roommates so it's not an option. Then he spent all day barking at us and Maggie. I took him on THREE walks, and also took him out to pee for 10 minutes every two hours. I tried so hard to tire him out but no luck. We played fetch for two hours. He just had all of this pent up energy and would NOT stop barking. I'm at my wits end and I'm about to rip my hair out. I don't know what to do anymore because I don't really know how to correct his behavior. Any help? PS. Of course this whole time Maggie is being a perfect angel which makes me want to just give Franklin away lol. Just kidding but you all know what it's like.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I wish I could help but the only thing I can think of is he's maybe caged too much ? Can you let him run free more ? at 10 months - they have tons and tons of energy....it sounds like you're trying but if possible I'd let him have some more freedom .... who ever said a puppy calms down at 10 months must have had one laid back yorkie. Mine are 6 & 4 and still play like they're puppies |

An expen would work but I'd like to keep them together and Maggie can jump out of them. I guess I could keep them separated. Also, there's really no place to put an expen so I'd have to gate him off in the kitchen.

| I don't think there's a way to train these little pistols not to be little pistols. Our little girl has way too much energy, so much I've thought of putting her on a treadmill like Ceasar Milan recommends. When ours is kept in for several days, she gets stir crazy. We have to take her out in our yard and let her chase her frisbee on top of walking her. If you have a dog park close by, you might try giving her something to chase. That seems to wear them out more than walking even does. There is a chase stick out there that comes with a string and a piece of fur on the end. You can put Franklin on a long leash and lead him around in circles following the fur on the end of the stick, if he's is up for it. |

I Love Thor Donating Member | Maybe he doesn't want to be in a play pen for hours? Why can't he run around the house when you are home with him? I hope you figure something out so you can regain your sanity! |

| If he is barking at you , then he is trying to tell you something. If you are stressed out so much with his behavior, then imangine how is feeling? Try to let him have more freedom. Meaning, he does not want to be in a ex pen or crate most of the time. he wants to be with his human friends.

As far as taking him to the dog park, we've gone every other day for the past 6 months. He doesn't do anything but sniff around and pee! We play fetch a lot at home but as soon as we get to the dog park, he won't chase a ball for anything. I might try looking for the chase stick although he gets bored and loses focus pretty easily. I take him on lots of walks and he gets plenty of attention and exercise. People have suggested to me that this is just his "adolescent" stage. Hopefully it doesn't last long!

| Oh and of course the little sh*t woke me up at 2:30AM... when we put him to bed at 1:30AM. Then he woke me up again at 6:45 so I took him on a long walk and gave him breakfast. Hopefully he'll go back to sleep because mommy wants to go back to sleep!
