YT Addict | Litter boxes??? anyone use them? I was looking at the petsmart website and came across some dog litter. I was just wondering if anyone has trained their pups to use a litter box. I was thinking it might be a good idea. Baylee WILL NOT go outside when it is raining. I know the weather is gonna start changing in a few months and im wondering if this would work. ANY ideas?

| I had a chihuahua when I was a kid who would use a litterbox. My yorkies just raid our litterboxes. I think small dogs can be trained to use them. I think puppy pads would be less messy then a litter box though. My dogs don't like to go out in the rain either.

| I tried the doggy litter in the doggy litter box, but my Yorkie as a pup just wanted to play with the litter. Now we use the potty pads (washable) in the litter box, and it is great!!! I have three wee ones that use the box and also go outside. The washable pads are great, and you don't have to worry about them tracking the little litter pellets all over the place. Or playing catch and release with them

| Lulu is trained to go in a dog litter box but instead of messy litter, we use blank newsprint. Whenever we noticed that she was chasing her tail, we would put her in the litter box and then one day she went in on her own.

| We use the litter box, but not he litter. We didn't want to risk them eating the litter or dragging it around. So we use pee pee pads. Wrigley is the one who uses it and it works great with her. We have been trying to train Camden to use it, but she only likes to jump in and out!

| In the beginning, I couldn't decide either - pee pads, litter box or outside?? After much debate, we opted for the outside training - 100%. When Bailey was younger, the rain didn't bother her -but this year, she does hesitate a little when it rains. I always go outside with her - so I just grab an umbrella when its raining. She does go in the rain, but hangs her head the whole way. Now snow - that's another story. If it just snowed and we haven't had time to scoop the sidewalk - then she will step outside and drop trou just the otherside of the threshold. I can't blame her - so I've just decided that we will get new welcome mats every spring

| I tried to litterbox train mine for about a couple weeks, but recently gave up. I'm probably not persistent enough, but he was pretty resistant to using them. When I would catch him getting ready to go, I'd put him in the box and he would use it, although he would never voluntarily get into the box himself. Now that I'm outside training him, (crate training), things are going well and he rarely has an accident. I have him in a larger crate, and when I'm home I block half of it off and am careful to take him out regularly. When I'm going to be out of the house for more than a couple hours, I take the divider out of the crate and put his litter box in. (I don't use litter, but rather line the bottom with a puppy pad). He always uses the litter box in his crate, and has never once soiled the crate outside of it. I had really hoped the litter box would work ... I'm getting ready to move to Pennsylvania where the winters can be brutal, and was hoping to avoid shoveling snow each time he needs to go. However, in my case I think he's happier going outside, and the litter-box-in-the-crate and pottying outside hybrid system will work best for us. I hope it works for you ... update me with your training system if it does! |

| We tried this with Emma, but she didn't get it. She wanted to eat the litter, and looked at us like we were crazy. We tried pee pads, and it worked much better!

| I just ordered a WizDog INDOOR DOG POTTY for: dog house training, housebreaking puppies, dog and puppy training (or I have another website for Canadian orders) - it is very similar to the UGODog. I hope this will work as you can eventually replace the potty pads with newspapers or similar which is more environmentally friendly - I like that. I really hope this system will work - litter seems messy and my little guy sometimes steps in his pee. Anyone have any advice how to get dogs to poo on the pee pads? He will go to the potty pad to pee - but will go to various areas to poo. There seems to be a disconnect there ... |

| Litter Box I do have the box but won't be using it 'til my little guys get here. The 'grate' on top is small enough that their feet shouldn't be bothered by it. |
