| Potty Regression?! Pixel was 8 weeks old and paper-trained when she came home with me. I've kept the pee pads going, and she's been very good with them. After she was spayed, she started having some accidents, but I figured that she was stressed and too sore to go to the pee pads regularly. A few days after, she was back to using the pee pads again, thankfully. I recently steam-cleaned the house and now Pix is having accidents again (she's 10 months old now). She seems to prefer the top or bottom of the stairs to her pee pads. I watch her closely and when she starts circling, I take her to the pad -- but she gets upset and runs to hide under the bed instead of using the pad. She'll stay there for a while and when she finally comes out again, it's a 50-50 chance of stairs or pee pad! What am I doing wrong here? I don't holler at her; I just use a more stern tone, tell her "no", and that's enough to set her off, poor thing. I don't want to give her a complex! I hate to see her so wimpy and upset.

| Hey. This is coming from a first time Yorkie mommy and half the time I have no clue what is going on but my Yorkie has had a regression too. He was doing great going outside but then began to have accidents in the apartment again. Like yesterday he peed all over our futon which is for guests to sleep on. I recieved some great training tips on here. It might help to find her motivation. For example, Jack loves cheese and I did research and no where did I find that it isn't good for dogs. So I went out today and bought string cheese. I peeled it apart and cut into smaller chunks. So whenever Jack goes outside I give him a chunk and then make a huge fuss like he saved the world. He loves the attention. But then today when he had an accident (we didn't see it so we couldn't tell him no) so we withdrew our attention. We didn't pet him or look at him. When we walked by him, we stood straight and looked forward instead of down. It was super hard for me to do but he realized that we weren't paying attention and he began to follow me around everywhere when I went out of sight. But I never acknowledged it. I think we did this in the range of 5 to 10 minutes. We wanted to give the impression that he needs to earn our attention. I have read somewhere that it also helps make sure you stay alpha in the "pack." Ever since that little accident he hasn't gone in the house...... yet. I hope this helps. If you run across anything that has helped please post because I am trying just anything I can think or hear. Let me know how it goes..... good luck! |

| Hey. Just wanted to update you and let you know that yesterday he was accident free and today is off to a great start! The cheese is working and I hope this is the key to the breakthrough I was hoping for. How are things on your end Nimue? I hope all goes well!

| Thanks Thanks for the input. Glad to hear that your baby's doing so well. Pixel is doing okay -- not perfect, but tends to use the pee pads again. She uses them to "piddle" almost all the time, and despite having some tummy issues yesterday, did her best to use the pads for the other. I know she gets it, she just makes mistakes. That's what I don't understand. I'm watching her as closely as I can and I keep making a big deal out of it and reward her when she goes in the right place. I'm trying to take away attention when she goes on the stairs -- that was tough!! Wish me strength so I don't cave in to that little teddy bear face! (I swear she knows how cute she is!!)

| Oh I wish you the best of luck. Jack had some accidents today. Accidents are accidents. It must be a general.... they all know that they are just too adorable. Everyone tells me that and I always reply, "Yeah and he knows it too!" I am glad to hear she is using more of the pads. I'm if she still is getting control of all her body functions as she is healing. It could be something as simple as she stayed at the vet's and she just had a temporary brain laspe and is trying to figure out where she needs to exactly go again. You just never know. Puppies have minds of their own.

| Well these little stinkers can be hard to train. Its easy and you think they have it. I guess we are the ones that let down our guards. Ooops then an accident. Its like you have to stay on them all the time and not let them out of your site. They are so small its easy for them to go and you miss it. Keep up the training and reward and they will get back to success.

| So I am awake at like 8:30 this morning because Jack peed all over our bed! I don't think he got it at all. I took him out at 12:30 last night and he has lasted 8 1/2 hours through the night for the last week. But he just lost his privilige to sleep in bed with us. I refuse to change my sheets every morning, granted this more than likely was an accident, I want him to know it isn't okay. I have decided that he is getting crate trained. He has never gone potty his in crate.... yet. I am just getting frusterated and I know it takes awhile and we have only had him three weeks. I am just tired of cleaning up pee spots. I kinda wish the breeder would have at least tried to potty train him since he was the last to go and 5 months old when I got him.

It sounds like he is having problems holding his bladder for as long as you expect him to. My boy usually wakes up at 6am to pee and we go to bed around 12:30am. I would definitely change your sleeping arrangements so that he is not sleeping on the bed and litterally trapped while he does the pee-pee dance...from his perspective that has the probably be the worst feeling. Why not try penning him off in a seabreeze pen (xpen) in your bedroom with his bed and a weewee pad that way when he wakes up and has to go he can. Until my boy was 100% reliable in the house at night and when we were at work he was kept penned off in the kitchen where his crate, food/water and wee wee pads were. Now that he has earned free run of the house he sleeps on his bed next to ours. Still every morning around 6am he wakes up and runs into the kitchen to potty then comes back to bed. It took him 20 months until he earned free run of the house. It is also a huge potty training aid if you designate a specific location for his wee wee pad and keep it there--it takes the guess work out of it for them. Try altering your sleeping arrangements; in addition to potty training help it is also a lot safer for him. Best of luck! | |

| Sorry I didn't write this sooner. So we made it to the vet today instead of waiting for tomorrow. Turns out he has an infection and now we have medication to give him. I knew something was wrong when he peed all over the floor at 1. And at 11am he peed all over the couch. He is usually so good at holding for 4 hours and about holding all night. Can't wait for him to get better. I feel so bad for him. And he has been very sleepy the last few days.... I mean alot more than normal so that should have been a red flag for me as well that something may be up. We normally take him out at like midnight or so and then again at like 8:30am. I know he was crate trained at the breeder's because that's where he slept for the night and she let them out of their kennels in the morning to the sunroom.

I Love My Babies Donating Member | I am so sorry he has an infection but that explains the lapse in his pottying. Hope he does better for you. Don't beat yourself up.. it happens. Good luck with your baby.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I understand what you are going through. I have a 6month old and when we first got him he was great going on the wee wee pads and going to the door. Now he goes by the wee wee pads and pees right next to them he also refuses to poop on them. When I take him outside he is to concerned about any little thing he sees out there and takes forever to go to the bathroom. I am not sure whatelse to do |
