Yorkie Yakker | chewing shoes my yorkie has started chewing our shoes. we constantly have to make sure we put our shoes in the closet and make sure that the door is completely latched or she will go in the closet and pull them out. i know its because she wants to chew on things but i don't know what to give her. all the books say not to give them rawhide. any suggestions on things that she could chew on? she has plenty of toys but she usually bypasses them for the shoes |

| Hi there, and welcome to YT! How old is your yorkie? What is her name? I would love to see a few pictures of her! Do not give her rawhide, greenies, or any of the commercial "chew bone" products-these can be a choking hazard, they can make them sick, and many of them are not good for dogs from a nutritional standpoint. Make sure not to give latex toys, especially those made in China-they can have lead paint on them, which can be toxic. Try giving her a kong toy-with a little Kong Stuffin, cheese, or peanut butter inside. A rope toy is great, as are the Orka toys-they are usually a combination of rope & soft rubber. You can add treats to the holes in it to get her interested in the toy. When my two were teething as puppies, they liked a plain old sock with a few ice cubes inside-I just dropped the ice in, and knotted the sock above them-the cold felt good on their little gums.

I Love My Babies Donating Member | The Kong toys are great. It takes quite a lot of work to get the treats out. And they are sturdy. My TJ had jaws of steel and he hasn't been able to damage them any. There are also rubber teething toys that you put in the freezer to chill. I had 2 for TJ and he loves to chew on them. Never thought of putting ice cubes in a sock. I always worried about all of the socks in the house becoming fair game.

Yorkie Yakker | my yorkie is 11 months. i would love to post pics but i don't have a scanner and i don't know how to do all the technical things that would put the pics on here. i do have a kong toy for my other dog (who is a cocker spaniel) i'll have to fill it up for her and i'm sure that will keep her occupied. she doesn't have her baby teeth anymore so i don't think she's teething. |
