| When I can I put my rugs back down? I have a question... When I got Mia, I took all the rugs up in my house because I was pee pad training her and I didn't want her to get the pee pads confused with my rugs. (I'm a huge rug fan) My house is all wood flooring (laminent flooring) and now I want to put my rugs back down. She is 9 months old today. When should or can I ever put my rugs back down? I tried a month ago with one rug and she went on it and I had to wash and put it back up... I really want to put my rugs back down. Can someone give me some advise about this issue? Thanks, p.s.. She is really doing good with her pee pad training.....

| I have the same problem and I'm guessing NEVER! They are potty trained but as soon as I try to put any rug down, especially when company is coming, one of them goes on it. I go months without rugs, but as soon as one goes down - BAM. So, I don't have an answer, but you're not alone!

| Sorry, I have the same answer. My York's also think an area rug doubles as a pee pad. I wonder if they were litter box trained it would be different?

I Love My Babies Donating Member | I have 2 beautiful big rugs... that are rolled up in the garage. TJ is 8 months old and I still have not put them back down. I have thought about it.. but don't want to take the chance of having him pee on them. I have other smaller ones down.. and he does not pee on them... so I guess I will have to give it a try.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I also have a beautiful wool rug and a expensive room size rug not to mention the tons of throw rugs I have had. They all get it confused with a pee pad. I have not had a throw rug or my nice rugs down in a couple of years. Oh well, I would rather have Yorkies than rugs anyway and my house stays cleaner without them.

| I've taken mine up and just have one in the living room. Suzi is 14 weeks. (Katie was 12 months before I put mine down again.) She's getting the idea of using pee pads and going outside too. Although last night she and Katie had wee'd outside and when I took them upstairs. I was on the loo and she decided to copy me on my bathroom rug. lol. I could do nothing but laugh. Hugs Shirl x x

| Bailey was potty trained to go outside. Except for the hardwoods in the kitchen and entry way, our house is fully carpeted. While potty training, I laid down blankets to cover the carpet - so I could wash them. After she was potty trained, I picked up the blankets. So, it seems if your baby is pee-pad trained - then I would lay down some old blankets - just to test her - then continue to potty train until she understands that its the pee pad and nothing else! Start in a single room so you can watch her and then correct the mistakes. Slowly give her more freedom as it is earned. Be consistent and watch, watch, watch until fully potty trained. Good luck.

| Thank you all for the suggestions... Like Jeri said, I'd rather have her than my rugs, so I guess I'm rugless. I may try Karri's suggestion before I totally give up... Thanks all...

| I have an area rug in my family room that I rolled up after we brought Leo home. I would suggest taking it very slow. At first, I put the rolled up area rug against one wall. I left it for a week. Every time he sniffed it, I told him no. After a week, I begain to slowly unrolled...inch by inch. Everytimes he sniffed it I told him NO. It probably took me a whole month to get it completely unrolled. |

| I have a few washable rugs around the house, they don't go on the rugs. The funny thing about Lucy is that the potty pad has to be in the exact same spot ALWAYS. I have tried moving it to other places in the same room but she will go on the floor where it originally was. lol!

| OMG is it really this bad? I have 2 girls, 17m and 7 m. And the younger one hits a pad occasionally. They don't mind going outside. But I though in time we would get there..... I have a friend who has a 8 year old, she has rugs and Bonnie does great, always had. I really thought it was me. Even though I did recently house break a litter of orphaned pups (Lab/Jack Russell mix).... We have all hard wood and tile, but I have a large area rug in the living room. And I just bought a bissel wet vac. I clean the rugs every other day and mop, well all the time. We are looking at building a new home in 2 years and I had planned on carpet....Are you telling me it's not going to happen!!!! |
