| Help! How to train to go on pee pad and outside.. Hello, We are brand new. I pick up my Laila tonight!! I am so excited! She is 6 months old. The breeder said that they would go on "paper." I have bought the pee-pads. My goal is to get her to go on the pee-pad if necessary (when we are at work all day, etc.) Then be able to go outside when we are home....is this possible?? Any help and advice would be appreciated!! I know NOTHING!! Thanks! |

| If you check out the training section, I think there have been some posts on this subject. Or you could just repost in that section and maybe get some more responses. I hope it's possible, because that's what I'd like to do when we bring our little girl home in August! Congratulations on your puppy!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | It may take a while - both my girls are trained inside and outside - and it doesn't happen overnight that's for sure lol we started on the pads - What I would do is use the pads since you aren't there during the day and also because she's new in your home and already used to them - then just take her for walks etc and she'll learn grass is good to go 'on'..... but just take it slow and LOTS of praise !! Congratulations on your new addition

| Congrats on your new addition and good luck with the potty training. It's an on going process and I'm just at the beginning of it. I picked up some spray at the pet store that you spray on the pads or outside where you want your dog to go potty. So far it has worked really well. On a side note, my groomer had 5 yorkies at one time and they were never completely house trained. So just have lots of patiences and clean up rags. |

That's exactly what we did. Mine are trained to go inside on puppy pads, but if we're outside they go out there.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I would crate Joey, overnight, and take him for a bathroom break around 2 AM and place him on the pee pad. I waited till he went, sometime I used 2 pads because he seemed to think the pee pad was the bed and he would walk off it and pee on the tile. I placed him back in his small crate, and in the morning first thing, I took him outside, and praised him for going, this helped him learn there were two acceptable places, but like the others have said, it takes time to learn that there are only two acceptable places.

| Congrats on the new one. Generally took a bit of time, but I used treats. Every time he went on the pee pad he got a treat. I did not work on outside until he was 4 months old or older as it was a very cold winter and very wet. Now he goes on the pad upstairs in the bathroom or bedroom. We have gone from 5 pad s to 2 and still no accidents. He gets walked twice in the morning and put into a pen while we are at work. Then several times after work and before bedtime. On the weekends he tells me when he has to go. The pee pad is usually only used at night or early morning before I have a chance to get dressed. We do not have a yard for him to go so we have to walk every time. |
