| Welcome to the world of Yorkie Training! My Yorkie is 5months,I have had him since he was 9 weeks old and STILL no luck. I tried everything. I like you also used to leave him in my house roaming around freely, but I soon learned that I couldn't do that anylonger so I put him in my kitchen with a baby fence with wee pads. He usually pees and poops there on the wee pad but when he's not in the kitchen he will poop and pee wherever he pleases! So your not going through this alone! My advice is to be patient and hopefully things will change! |

| congrats on your new puppy and welcome to the group First keep in mind you have a brand new puppy. He is still a baby and it takes awhile for a baby to learn thing. Where are you keeping him when you go out? Just in 1 room or does he have the run of the house? At his age he should be confined to the smallest room that does not have carpet(for easier cleaning). When my puppies where growing up I had them in the guess bathroom. Just enough space for a bed, 2 bowls, and a spot to lay down newspaper for them to pee/poop. Can't start potty training if you give them too much space. As for eating poop. My female only did it when she had her puppies after they were weaned she stop. But I believe you can buy some type of powder you put in their food that will cause them to stop eating their poop. I don't know how well it works but I've heard a couple of people tried it and it worked for them. Good Luck |

| Are you crating him? If not then start. Crate him most of the time and when you take him out, take him to the spot you want him to go to the bathroom. Keep him there until he goes if you know he should be going. When he is doing his business keep saying the command you want him to learn. For me it was "potty". As soon as he stops doing his business stop saying the command. I did this for a week and now I say "go potty" and my yorkie runs to her litter box. Also it may be better to use pee pads instead of paper. Pee pads are more absorbant. I also feed my yorkie only twice a day on a schedule and if you do that it will help you learn his bathroom patterns. I think he will grow out of eating his poop but him being in a room with it all day is definitely not helping. Good luck.

| I used the reward system for Maxwell and Zeus. We started on the weekend I got him (Maxwell) I watch him like a hawk - keep his pee pad in the same place, when he looked like he was going to go - I took him to the pad after he went (sometimes) I had to keep him in his pen (bought it at Petsmart $39.99 just like a play pen with out a bottom) I made a big deal of going on the pee pad told him what a good boy he was and gave him a small treat that my doctor said he could have and by the end of the weekend he had it down pretty darn well. Both of my dogs share a room in my home, however they each have there own play pen/pee pad/water/bed. The reward systems has worked wonderfully for me - even when I go to work they know my shoes are on and they get a treat if they go to there homes. I hope it helps. |
