| barking at other dogs Every time I take Smokey to PetSmart, he barks continuously at any dog he sees. It's really embarassing actually. Does anyone have any tips on how to better control his actions?

| Sorry, no help from me...My 3 bark at every dog , kid, or adult that passes us on the street !!!! But I do have to say they stop when their 'victim" (spelling?) stops and pays attention to them and I use my special sweet voice that makes them calm during the short visit...But it's everytime....Oh well.... Gotta love em...

| We had this same problem with our 10 month old, Harley, until recently. Every time he saw another dog and began to bark I would pick him up and turn my back (where he could not see the dog) and say "no bark" until the dog was gone. After a few times he stopped barking. I guess he figured out that he had to be quiet if he wanted to see the other dog. By the way, his barking wasn't agressive. I think he just got excited. |

| Smokey's bark isn't aggressive either... he just wants to play really bad. I've tried picking him up and turning away... he turns around and squirms and still yips.

| you might try this...when mine would do the same thing, I started carrying the tiny jars of treats(they only get these when we are out & about), anyway when they started barking I did the classic finger to lip-sshhh! As soon as they stopped- they got a treat. Now we're to the point that I don't give a treat every time but they are a lot better with the sshhh! When we pass another dog or kids and there's no barking, they get a jackpot reward (several treats)...good luck |

| I have been working with Taz on this same issue. He is getting alot better. I started the "No barking" and I praise him when he doesn't do it. He likes to growl at "inanimate" objects though on our walks which is really funny. He will growl at... 1) Shoes on the front porch. 2) Statues on a porch. 3) One particular moped we walk by. 4) When he walks under window planter boxes. I also watched "It's me or the dog", at least part of it yesterday and Victoria was working with a pomeranian that thought he controled the front door and whomever walked through it. She started with a bicycle horn and when he would run to the door barking, she would honk it and he immediatley went and layed down. (Letting him know this is unacceptable behavior). He would also try to attack the guests and when he did that, she took a can of compressed air and sprayed it NEAR his head, not in his face. Again, he immediatley retreated. I tried the 2nd technique when Taz would bark at one of my cats. He is very, very jealous if she gets close to me and he will bark at her like there is no tomorrow. One spray and he immediatley stopped. It gets their attention real quick!!! Now I need to find a small can of compressed air to take with us on walks along with treats when he is good.

To the OP either hold the pup and turn the other way so he cant see another dog and say no just like donnajinva described or sit the pup so that way he is not looking at the dog and do the same by saying no.If you dont correct the behavior it will turn to be aggressive. Good luck
