| its getting ridiculous... I love my boy, Memphis. He will be 2 years in November. He is energetic and funny. But he has seperation anxiety like i have never seen. He follows me around a little around the house. But when it comes to me or people in general leaving him, he bugs out. It started with me gating him in the kitchen... he would get mad and bark like crazy. But a few months ago, i tried to gate him and he snapped and bit the back of my leg. He freaks out when someone walks out of the front door or when someone gets out of the car. Its gone as far as him freaking out when i try to step into the shower. He didnt really get bad until he turned about a year. My girl is a little under a year and a half and she does none of this stuff. It was cute at first, now its embarassing when i have guests over. Does anyone have this problem, or have any suggestions? |

| Maybe a bit of obedience training will help? Fortunately, Lucky obeys and doesn't bark when he's gated up or when I leave. Whenever my dog barks when I'm sleeping, I slap the wall or the panels on my bed and he stays quiet after that. Try not to use your voice as that might lead to your dog developing a fear for your voice. Hope you don't have to resort in hiring a pet sitter everyday... $$$

| This might sound like a long involved process, but sometimes you have to take the long way to find the shortcut. If you take it a baby step at a time, you can help him overcome the anxiety. It will take some planning on your part and some help, but here goes...... The goal is to be able to leave him without Memphis freaking out. That is the ultimate goal, you cannot start there, you have to start at a point where Memphis is comfortable and happy.... say sitting on the couch with him in your lap. Set him on the floor and praise him if he doesn't freak out (he probably won't, but if he does it is VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE A STARTING POINT WHERE HE IS COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE. Pick him up and hug on him and then set him down and you stand up...... praise the heck out of him if he does not freak out, if he acts upset, then reassure him and repeat..... That is baby step one..... If this process intrigues you, please pm me for step 2. I don't want to take up so much space for folks who might not be interested. |

| sounds like a good idea chattiesmom, ill prolly try that for a week or so. If a dog had ADHD, he would have it. I hope it shows some results. |
