| Please help!!! I have a 3 1/2 month old female yorkie. Her name is Luna. The potty training is going smoothly but what I'm really having problems with is her barking and biting. The more comfortable she got with me and my husband, the worse she started to behave. She was really shy and quiet at first and now, she's a completely different puppy. I am losing my patience. She barks at anything and everything. She barks when she's going potty, when she wants another treat..or just for anything it seems like. The barking seems to be the bigger issue. Even after I give her a very firm "QUIET" she continues..she stops for a second or so then starts again. When I tell her QUIET she growls at me. As far as the biting goes, sometimes I can't hold her close to my face because she launches for my nose or ears! I'm just really confused and not sure what to do. I'm not sure if she's alone too long during the day, I work 8am-5pm. Not sure what to do. I was thinking that maybe another little puppy will mellow her out or something...any suggestions? Would getting another puppy help the situation? Or make it worse? How can I stop the barking? Maybe she needs more play time? Is she too young to put a leash on her? |

| Okay take a deep breath, alright you can do this! The barking can be fixed by putting coins in a coke can and shaking them at her saying "no bark" very firmly. Eventually all you'll have to do is say no bark and/or pick up the can and she'll stop. If that doesn't work try the cans of air you can spray to clean your computer keyboard. My furkids hate having air blown in their faces. On the nipping, when she nips at you gently wrap your hand around her mouth and hold it closed and say "no bite" firmly. I then open my palm and say "just lick" in a really happy voice and hopefully she'll lick your palm. It took about a week before Tucker stopped biting and started to lunge at me and lick my face off, but at least he isn't nipping anymore. I think if she's had all of her puppy shots then she's fine to be on a leash. IMO if you want to get another puppy for her to play with, to provide companionship for yourself, and you can afford it, then go for it. However, I wouldn't expect it to mellow out your puppy. Mine just got crazier with another pup. Good luck!

| I can't give you any advice on the training because I always have to go back to the books and reread them. Just wanted to say the LOVE the name Luna! And if "kimluvslexie" reads this, of course, I love the name Lexie too (hehehe). Oh, and I love having two babies. It's so much fun to watch them interact. But I wouldn't say it calms them. Good luck and have fun.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have to say that the biting is getting better. A firm NO seems to work most of the time. Its just the darn barking and growling. Almost seems like she's upset at me. I say NO and she barks and growls. She's one tough little cookie. She has a totally opposite personality then my other yorkie,Roxy who has passed (she's the one in the picture). I know someone who has a 4 yr old Yorkie and she behaves just like Luna does now. I'm scared Luna will be a big time barker all the time. She seems kinda of aggressive. aaahhh!!! Its just frustrating, but thank you for your suggestions. I'll keep working with her..luv her to death though. | |

| I finally had to resort to bark collars. I got a complaint from the neighbor that my dogs were barking when I was gone, so I really didn't feel I had a choice. Their barking improved immensely after the collars. Good luck. Barking is just one of those things that is hard to control.
